We're in Texas where the No Child Left Behind Act originated. The emphasis
on testing is unbelievable. Teachers spend countless hours not teaching the kids
the information, but teaching them HOW to test. High test marks means school
rewards and money. It's NOT about whether the child learns. It's
about whether or not the school gets its awards. Even more, kids here are so
stressed about testing that some have sleeping problems, anxiety, and a general
fear of school. The superintendent of our school district joked that kids'
shouldn't be requesting that their names be put on prayer rolls before
state tests...and yet the emphasis on testing is such that kids' stress is
through the ceiling. I don't blame the teachers. I don't blame the
school administration. I blame Bush and the people he worked with that came up
with the idea that market placed driven education was somehow a solution. UGH!!
If you want to see a system that works, see Finland...apparently, they have the
strange idea there that you should actually teach the kids.
" children are the ones who lose"?No! These tests are not
for learning, but government control. Let's get this straight!Cheating scandal? Who is really cheating?American education is
the biggest scam in history. Atlanta teachers should be rewarded.
Amazing how children have become prisoners of standardized tests, and parents do
nothing to stop it.Does anyone feel these tests improve learning?
No! So why do we do it? Why? Could it be control?Thank you Atlanta teachers. Hope things go well for you all.
