Federal sequestration blamed for closure of Murray center
Thank you, Congress. Even more specifically, thank you Tea Party. And Mike Lee
and Orrin Hatch, and Jason Chafetz, and Rob Bishop and Mitch McConnell and John
Boehner.Thanks a bunch.(I know. We're supposed to
blame it all on Obama. But only gullible people believe that.)
There is no reason that federal funds should be used for programs such as these.
If people want these programs to continue, they ought to start donating to more
This article fails to mention the LDS Church's food programs for the needy.
Although not called "food banks" they provide significant help with
food. The straight "hand out" programs of the food banks
teach dependency and entitlement attitudes among recipients. However, my
understanding is that the LDS church programs encourage (but do not require)
that recipients make an effort to perform some work to help others, creating an
earning and sharing attitude. There is a world of difference between these two
approaches.Just where in the U.S. Constitution is the federal
government empowered to confiscate the food or earnings of one citizen to give
them to another citizen? The feds should not even be in the welfare business at
all, so blaming closure of food pantries on the sequester is bogus. And anyone bemoaning the closure will be greatly admired and appreciated if
they personally step up and provide funds from their won earnings to support
food banks. "The trouble with socialism is that eventually you
run out of other people's money to spend."
