Good luck Cougars!
Just play loose Cougars. The preparation is all done now - just go out play
loose and have fun. Would like to see Kaufusi in early to guard the paint -
establish some early boundaries. Keep Davies out of foul trouble. No easy
Question, for all you readers...Is a Final 4 appearance in the NIT
better for a basketball program than a one-and-done appearance in the Big Dance?
If not, is playing in the NIT championship game better, or does it require an
outright NIT crown to be better? Thought?
I at least think winning the crown shows that that is better than a one and
done. You could legitimately say at that point that you most likely deserved to
be ahead of most of the one one and done schools. Final Four I think is also
close to that. But I think it's also kind of hard to tell. But for example
I would say that the winner this year of the NIT is a better team than Belmont
that lost in the first round.
Tis better to play anywhere than nowhere. For this year's team whose
inconsistent play doomed them, the NIT gave them the best chance to play more
than one game so the NIT was better than a First Four with little reason to
believe they could win that unless Carlino stepped up and played within himself.
I'm hoping the rumors of TJ Haws graduating early and playing next year
come to pass so we can have some consistent scoring from the guard line and
better defensive pressure... but he's going to have to add some weight.
Mika isn't a D-1 center yet (needs more offensive post-up moves), but, he
is a defensive presence. Hope springs eternal in the hearts of fans.
I'm looking forward to a Southern Miss win tonight!
BYU's performance this season surely didn't warrant an NCAA bid, I
think they're glad to still be playing and I'm glad they're still
playing. This will be a tough game, at least the venue is similar to
WCC venues. Should be a good game! Let's hope BYU can have 4 people step
up and contribute!
@AzTim - Let's look at the most recent history for the NIT. Champion
& Runner-up2012: Stanford/Minnesota2011: Wichita
State/Alabama2010: Dayton/North Carolina Now what have these
teams done in the NCAA Tournament recently?Stanford: Lost to Alabama in
the NIT 2nd RoundMinnesota: Beat UCLA in NCAA 2nd Round, Lost to
FloridaWichita St: 2012 lost to VCU in 2nd Round of NCAA; Currently
advanced to Sweet 16, playing La Salle (TBD)Alabama: 2012 lost to
Creighton in Round of 64; Lost to Maryland last night in NIT QuarterfinalsDayton: '11 & '12 NIT 1st Round (13' N/A)UNC:
'11 '12 '13 NCAA Tourney bids. '11 #2 seed, Elite 8;
'12 #1 seed, Elite 8; '13 #8 seed, lost to Kansas in 3rd roundSo what dividends does it play? It will give the team confidence moving
into the next season, but not necessarily help with the next season. Did you
even know Stanford won it all last year? UNC had an off-year in 2010.I hope we win it all, but I don't expect the world to recognize that as
"success." They're more likely to remember Kentucky lost to Robert
@AzTimFinal Four in NIT is better for the fans, one and done is better for
the team. You gotta make it to the dance.
Chris B: "I'm looking forward to a Southern Miss win tonight!"Good for you, lil brother! At least you have something to look forward
to in the off-season. Be proud!Scoreboard.
How far the NIT has fallen. Money considerations is at the heart of selection
and game sites. It makes no attempt the "equal the playing field" by
games at neutral sites! BYU has benefited from this in their first two games
but now must overcome this hurdle. With this in mind, I wish the cougars well
tonight. Show the the NIT a visiting team can win on the road in this
Given a vote of confidence by none other than Christy B, BYU should win tonight.
I was a professor at Southern Miss for 6 years and my family still lives there.
They will be out in the Blue and White supporting the Cougs tonight.
Mississippi Mormons head out and support the Cougs!
Always happy to see BYU play and win.@Chris BMy mother
taught me the "Thumper Rule" If you can't say somthin nice,
don't say nothin at all."Now, go say something nice about
@ Chris B (obsessing over all things BYU since 1995),"I'm
looking forward to a Southern Miss win tonight!" - I'm sure
you are, since there isn't anything to look forward to (or back upon) with
your own team.
"Given a vote of confidence by none other than Christy B, BYU should win
tonight."Thanks chrissy, we appreciate the support, as always!
Who am I sir?"How far the NIT has fallen. Money considerations
is at the heart of selection and game sites. It makes no attempt the "equal
the playing field" by games at neutral sites!"Yes, it was so
"unfair" to force BYU to play a road game against the #1 seed in an
8,000-seat arena, instead letting BYU host a home game in the tiny confines of
the 21,000-seat Marriott Center.Luckily, despite the usual whines
from the kids on the hill, BYU was up to the task.Go Cougs!
