way to go wasps its good to have family giving us this space
who is the Kelly kid? Is he one of the wrestling Kelly's? or perhaps the
former assst. coach's kid? Whoever he is, he's in a groove. It seems
like he has re-invigorated this stagnant program all by himself. Every article
I've read the last two weeks (i agree with duckhunted, wasps have an insane
amount of coverage all of a sudden) this kid is listed as pitching great,
knocking home runs or getting big hits. I don't think Wasatch has had more
than the occasional home run since they built their new facility, and this kid
comes along and is killing it! Congrats!
@joseywales,I think the Kelly kid is new. I don't think
he's related to those you mention. He does seem to be the straw
that's stirring the Wasps right now, but I know a lot of these kids, and
they will surprise some teams this year. They have a really good catcher and if
their pitching holds (which the new kid helps a ton) they will be very
competitive in 3A.
Kyle Kelly is a move-in from Washington state I believe. How he came to Heber, I
don't know. If he keeps up the pace he's been on (3 wins, 2 HR's,
not sure how many overall hits or BA) I'm sure I will be asking him to sit
down and talk with me. On those lines...I'm the one behind the Wasp's
"insane amount of coverage all of a sudden". I'm the staff sports
writer for the Wasatch Wave and the Deseret News has asked me to extend my
coverage to them online. Wasatch gets overlooked by the larger publications. We
have several quality sports programs and an entire study body's worth of
great athletes. I've taken it upon myself I guess to get their names out
there. I appreciate all the hits and comments that come with my articles. There
is a tremendous prep sports fan base that seeks its information from the Deseret
News and I'm happy to get them quality stuff on Wasatch.
The former assistant coach for Wasatch is Clint K-E-L-L-E-Y. This is a
different K-E-L-L-Y. Note the difference on the spelling of the names. As for the coverage, good for Wasatch. But all programs can do this.
There is thing called Deseret Connect where citizens can do stories for the
Deseret News. Some programs like Wasatch here and I've seen others in the
past like Syracuse and Stansbury, take advantage of this opportunity to publish
stories. The sports staff of the Deseret News is small and recent cutbacks have
made it smaller. One has to promote their own program to get press coverage.
Of course, some programs do it better by covering their programs along with the
quality of writing. But it is the wave of the future with journalism in
general, the general public doing the job that regular journalists can't or
P.S.I'll be shocked if anyone seriously challenges Snow Canyon
this year in 3A. If Gates stays healthy he's pretty much unbeatable. But on
top of that, Snow Canyon is well coached, they are physically talented, have a
great and nearly unbeatable #1 but have pitching depth behind him to boot.
@Eagle,Didn't Canyon View just beat SC last week? I think it
was Gates who took the loss too. I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I
think that makes him beatable without the UN in front. Overall, I think 3A is
wide open this year, the top teams are't as dominant, and the rest are
improving. Should be fun to watch.
