Cry me a river. These people are being tried for terrorism and murder of
Americans. If we bend the pages on their Bible while searching for
contraband(possible weapons), so be it.They should count their lucky
stars they are permitted to have their Korans.
From the article--Twelve lawyers have sent a letter to the commander of
Guantanamo, Rear Adm. John Smith. According to AFP, "We have received
reports of men coughing blood, being hospitalized, losing consciousness,
becoming weak and fatigued," Gee, counselors. I didn't go
to law school, and I can figure this one out. Tell them to eat.
Martyrs win in those men's countries and their deaths, if they happen will
cause riots and chaos around the globe. Then the President will have no
recourse but to close the facilities. If he had moved the prisoners to the
Chicago area facility, it would have provided people in the local economy jobs
and those prisoners would have potentially given their lives as martyrs there in
Illinois. They have been held captive for a long time and have learned how to
get publicity even in prison. The United States of America has used fellow
people of their faith and not Christians to deal with their scriptures in
hunting for contraband. The United States of America follows the rules of the
Convention to the Nth degree. This ensures compliance due to the Red Cross and
other organizations plus the detainee attorneys in their facilities supervising
and inspecting the process. The USA knew this process wasn't
going to be easy especially after one or two big publicity events where our
personnel made mistakes due to a lack of supervision and stupidity.Whether at Guantanamo or another location, these detainees and organizations
supporting them know publicity for the cause.
Oh shucks. I feel so bad for these terrorists. I might even sleep better at
night knowing that they are killing themselves.
First, why are these prisoners of war being treated like American citizens
rather than the rules of war set forth in The Hague Agreement. Second, why do
they have access to lawyers? Prisoners of war should be tried in The Hague.
And, third, why should I be concerned about the choices they have made for
I have no problem with them torturing themselves. Saves the US from the
controversy of doing it!
Guantanamo Bay is a travesty and makes a mockery of the American system of
justice. We can't detain these people, without trials, for the rest of
their lives. Try them, heck, if we find them guilty sentence them to death for
all I care. But putting people in limbo and refusing to try them or release them
just plays into our enemies hands. By doing this we are lowering our standards
as a nation. Our Bush and Obama disgust me by keeping this sham of a prison
And the down side is?
