Utah should not get any lands that are controlled by the Feds. Utah gets control
they sell it off to the highest bidder for the rich to have their fun. Say NO to
Utah getting control our state government is not responsible enough to have
I guess most of the Utah State Legislature must have missed the history section
on the Civil War. The Federal Government is more powerful than the states!! I
can just see it now. The Federal Government deeds over the public lands. All
the public lands get sold to rich friends of the Legislators. I can't
hunt, fish, or drive on these once public lands. It will be like living in
Maine and not Utah. Our Legislature is full of nincompoops!!!
The federal government is like a bully infringing on authority (e.g. the police
powers) and rights (e.g. right to keep and bear arms) reserved to the states and
the people. State lawmakers should be commended for pushing back against the
The federal government is a big bully and must not be allowed to take water
rights like it took land in the late 1900s. We as a state need to stop
them now. If anyone in this state wants to continue to drink water they had
better be with the state on this!Do not be foolish and think the feds will
be fair. They will not.Look how fair they have been to the Native
American's!They will take the water just like they took the land and
will not keep a single promise that they utter.
Is there ANY intelligent life in Utah's GOP?
Keep Utah lands for Utahns. Kick the Feds out.
Why would the Utah state government do a better job with "public" lands
then the federal government? Remember these are the folks that spend less per
child on public education then any other state. So if they value their children
less then any other state why would they value public lands or endangered
species? What would lead us to believe that these Utah leaders wouuld be good
stewards....nothing that I have seen.
States' rights have been trampled on as federal government has confiscated
state lands in order to regulate, that is to say no to commercial and energy use
with its vast array of regulations promulgated and enforced by unelected
bureaucrats. Utah must not cave to the behemoth.
Yes, let's make all of Utah into State land and get rid of Federal
controls. We can easily afford the few billion dollars a year it costs to
administer and operate those lands even if we do have to raise our taxes to do
so. And if the rest of the US objects, that's why we are making it legal
for everyone to carry concealed weapons.
Let's see, who has built most of the water projects to conserve water in
Utah, would be departments of the federal government? And the right
to bear arms is NOT reserved as a state right as it is in the Bill of Rights a
federal government document! Oh, and by the way, kt is not a God given right
The mentality of Utah against the Federal bureaucracy has grown over the fear
these politicians put into people's minds. I believe the Constitution of
the United States of America was a well thought out process, since it was
inspired by God to the men and their families that supported the principles we
have today. The States have rights and we can elect people to Represent us in
Washington, D.C. The small states and large states have Representation. The
Federal government has been big brother at times, but it definitely a
partnership and should be an alliance for the benefit of all our country and not
just portions. Utah politicians have a power grab issue at times.
There are processes to go through to work with each other. Land developers
would love to have pristine federal lands so they could get their way with their
real estate deals and profiteering. They want to be the Bruce Babbit of Arizona
and others to get the contracts for their share at Bryce, Zion, and other great
national parks. The Hilton/Hampton family of hotels is moving into Springdale
and convenience stores are closing. Water is valuable and accounted for.
'States' rights have been trampled on as federal government has
confiscated state lands in order to regulate''Confiscated
lands', you raise an interesting point. What about the rights of the
original owners of this land, what ever happened to those rights.
John Swallow is the big proponent of taking over the federal lands and in a
different way than Governor Herbert wants to do a similar thing. The
federal government owned the land to begin with. The state of Utah wasn't
a state until 1896 and they begged the federal government to make them a state
after being a territory. The state of Utah and the people of Utah didn't
have a lot of money or bargaining tool in 1896 when Utah officially became a
state. The State was grateful to become part of that system. In fact, federal
income tax didn't start until 1913 when Utah and Arizona were already
states. That was the progressive thing to do in 1913, to get federal
departments to become bigger. The west as a whole was treated as
federal lands and allotments and allocations became part of the process since
the land was not managed or owned. It costs money to run and manage lands,
parks, reservoirs, dams and other resources. The roads were a partner effort
with a lot of federal input to get them built in the west. President Eisenhower
built the freeways and that was a lot of federal dollars.
government man, It was never intended that the Feds be all powerful. They were
given a few things they had authority over and all other rights were reserved
for the States. Somehow you have missed the billions of rounds and millions of
firearms the DHS, SSA, IRS and numerous other federal agencies are amassing.
Apparently you have not seen the FEMA prisoner camps they are building. Also
you must not have seen the pictures and articles showing the massive supply of
plastic burial vaults which our benevolent federal goverment has stockpiled.
You who believe in the federal government deserve what you get. The rest of us
should be free of "your just dues".
This would not even be an issue if the Feds had not behaved like bullies in
handling Federal lands. Environmentalists believe that their cause is so
superior to any other considerations that anything they do is justified. They
have taken over the Federal government. If the Feds would be more
fair and reasonable in their management, there wouldn't be any problems.
When you push people too far, they rebel. That's what is happening in
Utah.We need a new Administration in Washington that actually
demonstrates concern for the rights of the people instead of believing its
judgement is superior to everyone else and it knows what's best for us
better than we do.We had a chance for something better in the last
election. Unfortunately, we blew it.
To "bobidaho" Utah will do better managing their lands because they live
there. They understand the lands. The Feds will hand out uniform rules that
often make things worse for Utah because the Feds don't understand the
ecology of Utah.
Interesting story for those US citizens who vacation in Utah. The story
mentions a "trio of Sheriffs" but fails to give even one specific detail
about the areas they work in, or what the feds might have been up to by
"looking in coolers". I want the federal lands preserved for wildlife,
species that are getting smaller in the west, like the Sage Grouse. Pine
beetles? Mother natures way of doing business, and yes there will be fires.
Fires are not bad for the forest, actually they are as natural and beneficial to
the forest as snow and sunshine. Fires are bad for insurance companies with
policy holdings of cabins and structures in fire zones, that is all. Fire is,
and should be, part of the western forest. See you in the summer time.
What's not clear in the article is ownership the lands in question. Utah
can't legally sieze Federally owned lands anymore than a Utah land owner
can seize a piece of land omned by his neighbor. And there's a certain
hypocrisy in any state asserting land use domain while asserting its entitlement
to receive Federal dollars.
Whoever follows Obama will have to sell of the Public Domain to just keep up on
the interest on the federal debt. At least then the States and Counties in the
eleven western colonise will be able to start taxing the lands.
