My guess is an 8 or 9 seed if we win. What city would we play in does anyone know the likely place?

Still fifteen minutes left in the game and the announcers are already discussing the Oregon/UCLA matchup tomorrow night.

    No respect for the Utes.

    @ phantom

With just under a minute left the Utes are down by 19 points. Is it ok for the announcers to now project a winner?

The Utes have come a long way this year. Unfortunately they are still under .500 for the season. A few tournament upsets are nice because of the timing and I guess that's about the extent of their season. But I admit, they are improving.

Ken must be another Chris B. except he didn't say "mark it down" when predicting a win. Maybe he can watch March Madness from the comfort of his home, like the rest of us will be doing. He should be used to it by now after two football seasons under his belt.

Tough game tonight for the Utes. They were looking pretty tired, especially in the first half. With how many shots were coming off the front of the rim it was apparent that fatigue was a bit of a factor. Credit to the Ducks though for coming out and taking it to them, good luck tomorrow night vs UCLA. The progress of the Utes over the past few weeks is very encouraging for the future. Thanks for your heart and effort this year Utes.

After scoring a whopping 15 points in the first half and your opponent scoring 29, you really think the team has earned "respect?" If the score were 25 - 29, then you'd deserve respect because Utah could overcome that, but really....15 points in a half? That's less than one a minute. That's not even a good scrimmage.

It was a fun ride while it lasted!

Thanks Utes for a memorable finish to the season.

There may be light at the end of the tunnel after all.

Nice try Utah, but three games in three nights was just too much too handle.

Utah's big three of DuBois, Washburn and Loveridge were obviously gassed - only 6 for 31 shooting and 20 points combined.

At least we're seeing signs of life in Utah's basketball program for the first time in years.

Tough night, but what a fun run in the tournament! Great exposure for the program, hopefully catching the eye of some class recruits like Loveridge who see this as a team of opportunity. The freshmen walk away with experience and confidence for next year, and inspiration to work hard during off season training. Thanks again, gentlemen! You were the talk of the town and across the nation. Looking forward to next year!

Wow, a 29-point swing in less than a week. This is why comparing teams based on a single head-to-head matchup is so pointless.

Congrats to the Utes on a great little mini-run to end the season. Unlike the last several years, at least U have something positive to build on for next year.

Someone should probably check on chrissy and make sure she's alright.

Tough loss for the Utes, but at least they showed a little fight in the 2nd half.

The Utes lose... enter the trolls. Go ahead pile on, your team was a real world beater in the WCC tournament.

Given the level of talent on this Utah squad, I'm satisfied with the amount of progress they made toward the end of the season. I'm not a Chris B fan, but he is right about one thing, Utah had the best 6 wins in the state of Utah.... however they also had some of the worse losses. The bad losses came at the beginning of the season while many of the quality wins came at the end, so we have a program moving in the right direction.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see it.

Utes over achieved by three or four games - Cal, Oregon, Colorado and Boise State. With a patsy non-conference schedule 12 wins was a given. Congrats on winning those four games, but I don't see this a sign that the Utes are back.

And as for next year, I don't think the Utes will reach .500 and will likely have a worse record than this year. Losing Dubois, Dean, Washburn and Martin will have an impact. Who will give you 33 points, and 15 rebounds?

There is some talent coming in, but Loveridge and Taylor are really the only experience U will have.

Now if you want to argue that next year is really the rebuilding year and 2014-15 the Utes will be better, I can buy that. 2015 should be the first year U will be above .500 since 2008-2009.

Nonetheless, congrats on beating Oregon in the regular seaon and Cal in the tourney. U should feel very proud of your team for those thrilling wins!

    CFIT,

I don't see Ute fans saying "Utah is back". I see comments like "moving in the right direction" or "good to build on for next year".

You call Utah's wins "over achieving". A win is a win and teams earn their wins. Didn't BYU earn their win over Utah by 3 pts on Dec 8? Likewise Utah earned wins over 39 Colorado, 44 BSU, 48 Oregon, 54 Cal and 85 ASU. And BYU earned their best RPI win against #88 Montana.

With regard to next year, sure Utah is losing 28 pts and 12 rebs from Wash, Martin & Dubois (Dean is a JR.). Likewise, BYU is losing 29 pts and 14 rebs from Davies, Zylstra and Cusik. Are you prognosticating a sub 500 season for BYU as well? Utah will struggle to replace Wash with Olson or Bacynski, but should be okay at the #2 spot with incoming Delon Wright and ESPN Top 100 recruit Aaron Dotson who was hurt for most of this season. Tell me, should we expect the starting 5 of Hawes, Austin, Carlino, Sharp and ??? to tear it up next year?

    u90,

Byu didn't go sub .500 this year. Utah did. Cougfan is guessing Utah will see much of the same due to the losses in personnel. Byu has the same struggle to replace key parts, but they didn't play sub .500 this year, so why should cougfan think byu will be as bad as Utah next year when we weren't as bad as you this year? Poor reasoning there. I am happy Utah lost. I am happy byu was better this year again. I am happy that it makes you sad that byu is better. Thanks!

"Losing Dubois, Dean, Washburn and Martin will have an impact."
I expect red shirt junior Glen Dean will be back for his senior season of eligibility.

    @toosmart

Why do you care about the Utes? You should be more concerned about how your team down south did in the West Coast tournament.

By the way, how did they do?

  • U 90 Corona, CA
    March 16, 2013 10:48 a.m.

    Ted H,

Do you think Utah's sub 500 record had anything to do with playing in the PAC 12? Perhaps if the Utes could have played in the weaker WCC they could have gotten 2 more wins which would put them above .500. Is my reasoning poor, or have you overlooked a PAC 12 schedule vs. a WCC schedule?

I'm happy when the Utes are improving. I'm also happy to see the Cougars do well. I'm sorry that your happiness is based in seeing Utah lose. What a sad life for you.

  • Ted H. Midvale, UT
    March 16, 2013 1:22 p.m.

    @U90,

Of course the fact Utah is in the Pac12 makes it more difficult to have a good record. The WCC is a poor league. I readily admit it. But you seem to be bouncing all around in your argument.

YOu are the one who responded to CougfaninTX by asking if he thinks byu will also be .500 due to the fact they lose key players. I'm simply pointing out your suggestion doesn't seem based on reality. BYU and Utah are both losing key players we all agree on that. Therefore if your argumnet was "byu and utah will both do similar to this year, next year" I'd probably agree with you. But you are the one who suggested byu may also be .500 as they are losing players.

I'm simply pointing out they weren't .500 this year, Utah was. RPI does take into account your harder schedule. And BYU is better than your Utes, roughly 150 RPI to 65 or so.

And yes, I do like knowing that since BYU is much better per RPI rankings(takes into account schedule) that this bothers you. Thanks again!

Good end to the season for the Utes, too bad that the ride ended short of a NCAA tournament bid.

    U90

Losing Zylstra and Cusick will have minimal negative effect, if anything Zylstra was a detriment to this years team. Replacing him with Collinsworth is a definite upgrade.
