The ironic part of the illegal immigration issue is that all government would
need to do is MANDATE e-verify accompanied by huge fines for employers who have
exploited cheap labor and 80-90% of the issue would go away overnite.Glaringly absent from the various amnesty plans are any talk of enhanced
enforcement. Obama has tried his best to NOT enforce existing immigration laws,
why would he enforce a "new" law?Its a continual source of
frustration to me that political leaders (of both parties)profess to wanting to
help American citizens, while at the same time giving away our jobs and
resources to illegal trespassers.Politicians from both political
parties are working more for the betterment of illegal trespassers than they are
the American people. Its' time for that to stop. They're
not fooling anyone!
We speak as if we have clear title to this land. Mexican immigrants also have
just claim to this land. They are not trespassers any more than we are. We
need to be accommodating.
The great hoax is pointing the finger at the illegal immigrants themselves.
Eliminating a Guest Worker program years ago, not securing the border, Mexican
corruption and the resulting poverty are more appropriate culprits. How about
our federal government that has ignored the problem for decades? And an added
note to csj: the US government actually bought the land from Mexico. The
Mexicans weren't the first ones here, it was the native Americans.
If all the cheap products Walmart sells said "Made in Mexico" instead of
"Made in China" we wouldn't be having this discussion. The
root cause of immigration is poverty and lack of opportunity in Mexico. If
people were truly Christian they would see that and have a more human approach.
Mexico has the 13 best economy in the world, 4.47 unemployment (Dec, 2012) and
brand new welfare programs. The violence is limited to just a few spots, and
tourism is booming. While countries south of their border are poor,
Mexico is doing great thanks to US subsidies and NAFTA. (13 car factories, more
than Detroit). The people from MEXICO come here illegally for higher
paying jobs, they are not starving and have plenty of opportunity.
Finally the DN lets an honest evaluation of the real problem in Utah be heard.
Everything in this article is what is happening here in Utah. Those who voted
for those in office that have voted for #116, the Utah Compact, Medicade for
illegal alien babies and have allowed them to lower our standards of living and
wages needs to wake up. Utah is in line with California now. There is no excuse
Herrod really is right on with the information in this article. It is clear
that he has seen and understands the situation and impacts caused by allowing
this to continue.Regretfully, too many of our other leaders do not
see the cause and effect of allowing illegals to thumb their nozes at our
immigration laws while they participate in what America has to offer them.Although we understand that the primary responsibility of immigration
lies with the federal government there are many things that Utah's city,
county and state leaders could do to discourage the flow of
'undocumented' persons into our jurisdictional areas. One of the most
effective ways would be to establish employment status verification requirements
and to put penalties on non-compliance.
The link in the article does not work. Put "We are the future of America.
Unlike any prior generation" into a search engine, and you will find several
sites with the story. Jose Angel Gutierrez, is a political science
professor and former head of the Mexican-American Studies Center at the
University of Texas, Arlington. Another famous quote of his cane from an
interview with Lewis W. Diuguid of the Kansas City Star. "Gutierrez said
people from Mexico, Central and South America are not immigrating to the United
States. They are simply migrating because this land had been
theirs…Hispanics should never put up with others telling them to go back
where they came from"
Mexico surrendered all right to claim our southwest in the mid 1800's.We have laws to protect our country from these invaders, but those who
have control choose not to do so. Mr. Herrod is exactly right, and if we
don't wise up and start eliminating the benefits and jobs to these
invaders, we are going to wind up exactly like Mexico, in the hands of the
corrupt. Absolutely and completely.Illegal aliens, actually slaves,
are no more than a tool used by others to gain personal advantage. I feel for
these slaves, but if in our misplaced "compassion" as some would call
it, if we do not stop this insanity, we are going to allow those corrupt others
to destroy our state - and our country.Christ himself, indicated
...straight and narrow is the way.... I take this to mean that misplaced
compassion i.e. not following the law, whether a business man, a religious
group, an enforcement officer, or the illegal alien themselves, are not going to
get what they are after with misplaced and deceptive claims of
"compassion" for anyone -- unless destruction of our country is what
they have in mind.
