Knowing the situation personally I'm appalled that parents have such power
now to control a wonderful mans career. Mark is one of the most generous, kind,
thoughtful & passionate men I know. It has been an honor getting to know him
and seeing him change high school boys for the better. Binghams program will
suffer without him and he will be missed!
Seems like parents in our state can get coaches to "resign" almost as
fast as Deron Williams. Lots of good men are being forced out of the coaching
profession. Gotta love helicopter parents.
You will never please everyone as a coach that is for sure...but there is always
more to these types of stories. Especially when you have individuals not
available for comment. This particular situation is not about helicopter
parenting but much more. Ethics, abuse and other issues have come into play.
It is very interesting that the only positive comments came from a player from 7
years ago. What about the 70 plus players since that time period? Were they
unavailable for comment as well? With a school the size of Bingham where are the
Division One Scholarships for the past 10 years of his career....there has been
1. Not that great of a track record.
This is not a parent thing or a playing time thing. Why do you think the
athletic director wasn't "reachable" for comment? What about the
principal in support of the coach or the district if he did nothing wrong? The
coach’s gentlemens club will not say bad things nor will Des News. But,
oh how he did wrong! Even if the truths are never printed publicly, those that
worked or dealt with him know the facts. Resigning was the best way out for
him. A few parent complaints would not get a coach to resign nor fired, unless
the coach is thin-skinned or he did something terribly wrong. Think about it
folks, the Des News has to go back 7 years to get nice comments from a former
player, then again who's going to say anything mean about someone else when
it's getting printed in the newspaper or online. Trust me, it's
past the time when he should have left. So to the early commenters - suit
yourself because based on your comments the wool has certainly been pulled over
High school athletics in Utah is declining at a rapid rate. Losing quality
coaches does not help. In this day and age, coaching is becoming a dying
profession. Para-professionals will soon outnumber classroom teachers as
coaches. Why would anyone work for pennies on the dollar while wearing a giant
target for criticism on their chest? He may not realize this, but coach D may
be better off.
if you go .500 with the players they have 2 years in a row you should be fired.
The fact is the program was suffering because of him the last few years. coaches
suit because they could get along with him and some of the best players in the
school wouldn't come out for the team because of him. I don't agree
with parents having a say in what goes on but He was going to be fired a couple
years ago until the AD saved his job. I think regardless of what the parents
said he was gone either way. I wonder if he will keep teaching there? I have
heard the list of who is going to put in for the job and Bingham will be better
next year for sure.
Having a nephew play for this program, clearly it was time for this to happen.
The way he would degrade boys to get perfection was ridiculous. I do have to say
they have had great seasons.. But to rip a boy apart to get to the top, not the
way to do it! This comment is not to attack him personally but as a coach and a
leader and a mentor this was not his place. I wish him luck in what ever he
decides to do. But I really hope Bingham replaces him with someone that will
keep using the tremendous talent that comes out of That school but does it with
some respect and gratitude.
It was time for Dubach to go. Knowing the things that have gone on over the
past few years, a change of scenery might be what Mark needs. The Bingham
athletic department requires allot from it's respective programs, and Coach
Dubach has not delivered. If the Miners are smart they will go after Scott
Briggs of West Jordan. That's a coach with nothing but class and 2 state
championships and 3 or 4 runner up during his tenure. And thats doing it with
fewer kids to chose from and less talent. He's a tough coach with a
winning attitude. Give him the Job and expect a Dynasty! High school
athletics is not declining in the state of Utah. We just need better coaches to
guide our athletes. And parents need to stay out of it.We all think that
our kids are "the man",(especially at Bingham) but the level of
ignorance parents display is astounding! When parents attend all the
practices and work outs and know all the plays that the coach runs (inside and
out), then you might be able to second guess why a coach. Until then...keep out
They should look at Hunt from South Sevier. No one can match his record.
Not true Trav5. I personally know many BHS players that put in the extra time
that the Lone Peak players did. The fact is Dubach never developed his young
players like Coach Lewis and Coach Briggs are famous for. He never gave the
young players the confidence as Freshmen and Sophomores, playing Varsity, like
these two coaches have; thus, no D1 scholarships. By the time they are Seniors
they have been so beaten down and degraded by the coaching staff, that they have
no confidence left. Bingham could be a dominant program once again if Coach
Briggs would come over; however, I would hate to see West Jordan lose him, as he
has accomplished such great things with that program.
Bring back Sluga!!As an alum who has had nothing to do with the
school or program for over 20 years (i.e., I am essentially an outsider) I think
this is a good change. Now if Van Orden can get them to throw the
Trav5. His entire coaching staff quit last year. The majority of his players
transferred schools. That is not because of helicopter parenting or lack of
work/motivation on part of the athletes. Its because of the common variable, the
head coach. If he is the coach he was when you played, then why did everyone
leave?Karma. The only person who has/had karma coming their way
around here is Mark Dubach.
Bingham is not the job people think it is. The people in Holladay are worried
about losing Matt Barnes and his entire staff. He lives in the Bingham area as
do some members of his staff and word is they might look at a move. I
can't see him leaving Olympus, to many roots in the community. That said,
he should be the number one target.
I love how many commentators are stating that they know the coach or the players
"personally", as opposed to what? Impersonally? Professionally? Just say
that you know them.
Where is Paul Harvey when we need him with "The Rest of the Story"? I am from out of state and from the outside there is more to this story.
I have no clue but I am betting the rest of the story will not ever be given.
Seriously! After reading these posts if I was a coach I would stay as far away
from Bingham High School as possible! Not an environment anyone would want to go
Speaking of Scott Hunt at South Sevier he was run out of South Summit because by
disgruntled parents because he wasn't playing their less than talented
young men as much as they thought he should. He left there and won the first
State Championship in the 100 year history of Bear Lake High School. Went to
Panguitch and won State Championships there and his run at South Sevier has made
him arguably the premier Coach of this generation.Parents...let coaches do
their job and keep your opinions to yourselves.
Reading these posts makes me sick! This is a man that I loved, respected, and
still to this day cherish the memories that I have on the court with this man.
I don't know much about what is going on but i do know his coaching
strategies couldn't have changed much in the last five years from the time
I played for him. He coached me all 4 years of my high school career and I
wouldn't have asked for anything else. Lets give the man the respect that
he deserves and the legacy that he carried while a coach at bingham. It is sad
that it has to be ruined by some parents and kids who get their feelings hurt,
the world needs a little more toughness and I have used much of what we taught
me in my daily life! I have nothing but respect for the man and hope the best
I would love to see Briggs or Barnes. I know both quite well. I have a hard
time seeing Briggs leave WJ though. He's a life long WJ guy outside of a
few years in his youth before WJ was built. Barnes would be great, he's a
great guy and coach. Parry is Farce, I'd love to see George come back, but
that won't happen. There is a reason why his entire staff quit on him last
year and he had an entire new staff this year. The guy needed to go and big
