Now let's go back and do this RIGHT.

Ban cell use and texting by ANYONE no matter what age they may be.

I hope the bill stays dead. At this point, it is only mostly dead.

So texting is not okay, but talking is? The brain cannot multitask that way, with divided attention, and so talking on a cell phone, even hands free, is just as bad as texting. We see it every day: People driving like they are drunk just talking on the phone; not texting, just driving.

And I agree with One Old Man: There needs to be a ban on everyone, not just teenagers!

Come on law makers, you can't drive around the block without being cut off, slowed down, unable to move after a light change etc. etc. etc........ Not to mention the chance of being involved in accident involving a person using a phone while driving.... Take a big dose of courage and pass a ban on all cell phone use while driving.... It won't hurt to pass at least one bill that makes sense.... I promise! Just try it for once and see.....

    To "one old man" done.

Per Utah Code 41-6a-1715. Careless driving defined and prohibited "A person operating a motor vehicle is guilty of careless driving if the person...using a wireless telephone or other electronic device unless the person is using hands-free talking and listening features while operating the motor vehicle" Per the code that is a class C misdemeanor.

If you can text with a hands-free device, then you are legal. Otherwise it is illegal.

I think the legislators must all be body-shop owners.

that and the have family members who work as EMTs or in ERs.

They show no desire to reduce their business - the more wrecks on the highways, the more their bussinesses and their family members jobs prosper.

Either that or they are just rude, inconsiderate so and sos who think their conversations with their grandkids are more important than public safety.

For once I agree with old man and exscribe.
