AmenSeems to be the government plays the game and waits til it is
too late to stop the bad bills from passing.
Totally agree, too. This shouldn't happen. History has shown us that some
of the worst bills get passed during this time. This is when last year's
sex ed bill was passed, and the year before that, the GRAMA changes went through
in the "scary session." Put an end to it, Legislature!!
I could not agree more. The deceptive practice of hiding one's bill until
the last moment should be cause enough alone to decide that the bill is without
Of course this thing is rigged to favor politicians who don't want their
bills to be fully vetted. That's called "politics" and in Utah, it
is practiced in its finest form. Ever heard of "boxcar bills?" This
article is just the tip of the iceberg. Ask any of the leadership and they
likely would tell you the earth would quit turning on its axis if they were
suddenly not in power any more. Many years we'd be better off if they
didn't meet at all, in my opinion.I tell you, Washington DC has
NOTHING over State and Local Government when it comes to politics (and dirty
The Utah legislature is fixed so that serious matters get no attention and huge
amounts of energy are expended on silliness. It's good entertainment, but a
lousy way to make laws.
Scouter,2011 HB477 Grama had 2 committee meetings and was not originally
passed during the described period of time.it passed the hose 9 days prior to
2,d of session. 2012 HB 363 health Ed bill passed a house committee
a month befor the end of session. Two weeks later it was voted on in the house.
Two weeks later it was voted on in the Senate. You are correct it got one
committee. Not fast. Bills can move fast but you picked the wrong ones
I remember the omnibus bill in 2008 in regards to public ed. The legislators
took every one of their bills that had been defeated and rolled them into one
omnibus bill that held other bills hostage until the whole mess was passed. We
still haven't recovered from that mess. What a joke.
Excellent editorial. Thanks.

Almost verbatim from a certain US Senator prior to the election.
