Give the alcohol sales to the rehab centers and other addiction places. I
wouldn't feel right about alcohol financing my child's education.
People will drink. People will use tobacco. People will gamble. Will Utahns fund their children's education?Using a
'higher moral standard' to justify not providing adequate educational
resources to our children is ridiculous.Might as well say that denouncing
alcohol/tobacco/gambling is more important than educating OUR future.
I'd feel just fine about it - as noted, it currently pays for their school
lunch and no one is objecting (nor should they)!washcomom- I guess
it is a good thing you don't live in Utah, then you won't have to be
bugged by this. I hope it is passed sometime, if not this year. We
have very few potential funding streams for education in Utah - we need to look
at every possibility.
Education is funded as mandated in the Utah State Constitution by sales tax, and
without constitutional change the state wrongfully added ownership of personal
property as taxable for education by county, also unconstitutional. Only the
state government can collect and distribute taxes for education. Alcohol is not
given the authority for special taxation beyond sales tax to fund education.Giving in to mindless funding of educaiton is also gone criminal with no
oversight of spending, no oversimple of curriculum, and education thinking it is
a new and separate branch of government is unconstitutional. Education has no
authority to lobby or demand money from taxpayers and government beyond what it
is allocated for every year it is funded by the legislators and taxes
collected.Education must adjust itself and what it can do every year
according to available funding. Education is not a contracted cost plus system,
it is a limited funding and if they can't live within their means and the
billions of dollars they get then they must be given some new directions within
the means of the people and economy to support.Birth to death
education is not the liability of citizens, liability is K1-K12 period.
We already pay four times more on education then other industrial countries, and
hold the worlds record for it.Why are we even talking about more
funding?Does reducing the debt mean anything?
