Except it wasn't on grass... it was on the football turf...
The Motzkus family wishes to make a public apology to Ryan Mitchell for the
unintended negative sentiment as a result of this article. Justin credits much
of his development in soccer to coach Ryan, who for many years has repeatedly
displayed the highest coaching skills and tireless efforts on behalf of his
players. Justin has the UTMOST RESPECT for coach Ryan and intends to return to
play with his current club soccer team after the High School season. There is quite a list of things in this article that is factually inaccurate.
The author was clearly making some things up and made for some exciting reading,
but also one unfortunate statement was not given with full context. That of a 14
year old boy with a microphone in his face for the first time after excitedly
playing against his coach and team mates in friendly competitive rivalry of
which all have enjoyed a great and continuing relationship - and something
probably came out wrong. Lessons have been learned in how to speak publicly,
and to media. So again, it is with sincere regret and apology for the
unintended offense this unfortunate situation has caused.
Ryan is a great coach. We have a couple (very good)players at Murray who have
been on his club teams. I'm sure they will get a little more satisfation if
they get wins against him. Because of the relationship, and because they know
he's good. This game doesn't even matter for anything other than
improving for region play. I'm sure Ryan is only worried about his team.
Don't worry about a silly partial quote in a article. Sounds like he should
be excited about the way he played. Let him enjoy it.
