Two negative results:1) Taxpayers paid for the 2012 service in
November. Now they must pay by August 15 and many will pay long before then,
resulting in Wasatch Front picking up its fees much earlier and being able to
utilize the interest from those fees2) Most homeowners have
mortgages and the mortgage companies will be escrowing based upon the 2012 taxes
which included the garbage fees. So, in essence, taxpayers are paying double
for garbage services until the escrow account gets sorted out at year end.
RBN,You are right - the timing on this is a little off because of
the change, which is obviously out of their control. Luckily the fees
didn't go up this year. Since Salt Lake County is doing a tax increase on
our property taxes, I guess maybe it's okay that there's a little
extra is my escrow account this year. I've been impressed with
Wasatch Front Waste's efforts to keep us informed. They've done a
great job answering my questions on this billing change, even though it's a
little inconvenient to pay a bill.
