Sounds to me like the district found their scapegoat and rode it all the way
It is a Football coach. Go to CLASS
Wow, first Wong, now McGeary. It sounds like some districts are either
power-hungry, or they're not training coaches very well in administrative
things. Didn't these schools have AD's? If not, why not? An AD
would have corrected any problems from the start, before it got to the principal
or the district. If there is an AD at Lone Peak, why weren't they involved
with this? A lot of unanswered questions here, and this (and previous) story
didn't answer them.
Timpview, then Cottonwood, and now Lone Peak. Will football be handled best by
the next guy? They should allow for coaches to pay themselves with booster
moneys. Football is a big business and coaches in Utah deserve more than the
$1500 they're paid to go to summer camps one week per years, plus all the
other goings on. If it's like the Timpview fiasco, there has to be
some administrator or parent with secondary motives. Not surprising, no kidding
college coaches recruit so little from the state of Utah- even our own Utah
coaches. There are very few coaches who have the knowledge, passion, and
dedication to make football a success. Too bad for LP, I don't think
protesting is gonna help.
Sure is a lot of judgement going on when there's little info on why the
school was not going to renew the coaching contract.
@sundancekid27 did you read the article? They did the walk after school. Let the
kids fight for what they believe in.
Pocketing someone else's money is wrong. Period. If my kid walked out like
this, I would have given him a good tongue lashing and lesson in honesty and
I'm sorry for the loss that the LP players will have to deal with. I know
you are all upset. Your walk to the ASD show some maturity. Better than the way
you treated the players last week. One day when you grow up enough you will
really regret that. Teachers and coaches are not asked to resign just for the
heck of it and because parents complain. If that were so, there would not be any
teachers left. Nobody is asked to resign until all of the fact are in and they
have gone through all of the legal channels. ASD found it necessary to take the
action they did. If he did what he was accused of doing it does not matter who
brought it to the attention of the powers that be. It was wrong and unethical. I
will guarantee all of you who are crying foul. You do not know all of the facts
and you never will. And be glad you don't, because chances are you will not
like what you see and read. Good people do bad things and make wrong decisions.
They eventually have to answer for them. It hurts others.
Parents and booster clubs should be kept out of high school athletics!
Toocoolforcoug you are naive if you don't believe parents run teachers and
coaches out of schools!! Living in Woods Cross you should absolutely know this!
Funny how schools beg for money, then when boosters and corporations bring it,
the school cries foul if coaches can't follow the tax-code size rules
administrators set up for the use of such funds. Want to end the problem?
Don't accept the money, period. Otherwise, quit whining about trumped up
"violations" that are a result of lunatic parents. If McGeary did
something wrong, charge him. Otherwise leave him alone.
To The Judge! Well said! Thank you!
Why can't students speak up and fight for what they believe in? I
wouldn't care if it was after school or during class. In the Civil Rights
movement it was the young (college, high school and even younger) people that
led the way. This is what America is all about. How else could they express
themselves and again since they are the ones most directed, their voice should
be heard. Us adults need to "grow up" and believe in our children.
Sounds like the parents and school board finally re-seized control.
