An ice hockey team that replaces the goalie with a forward will definitely score
more goals, but it will not win the game. This is what we are doing to our
families when we push mothers to enter the workforce instead of supporting them
in their mission to take care of the home.
So which one is it? Are American families worse off than ever or not? The media
keeps pushing conflicting messages. The picture attached to this article shows
what appears to be a hispanic family. I thought they were used and abused? Now
they're the poster children for success? What the heck?!
Here is what I see and have experienced--When the women go to work, who takes
care of the children, elderly and the ill in the family. Many have delegated
this care to other women who do not work earning money. They always make the
comment, "you will have so many blessings in heaven for what you do."
We help earn the cub scout awards for their children. Do the volunteer work for
funerals. Drive their elderly families to doctor appointments, feed them, visit
them, rehabilitate them. Do welfare assignments for the LDS church. Even watch
their children after school with no financial compensation for those who plead
poverty, yet they show up in a new car and yap about their trips to Disneyland.
Unfortunately, I have experienced too many abusive, selfish women over the
years. When I have said "no", I am shunned. Are we really creating a
better society by focusing on more money to spend?
Great photos of a dentist at work and one of Zion's Camp.Strange
album for a story about income levels as studied by Pew.
ok, so we make more. but clearly we have gotten more stupid. doesn't
take a study to prove any of this!i gave up an engineering career to stay
home with my children. i figure i have lost over $1,000,000 in income. (master
degree in mechanical engineering) but who needs the money?! i have my
More money for some... and yet a huge percentage of kids are born to single
parent households... marriage is on the decline... etc...
We may make more, but the cost of living is much higher. In the early 90's
the average sized home cost 120K. The average sized home is now 220k or more.
My parents were dual, (as my husband and I are) income earners, but their
insurance was much less. They had no deductible, and a $5 copay. My husband and
I have a $50 copay and a 2.5k deductible. Growing up if we skimped we could get
by on $200 per month in groceries for a family of 6. My husband and I have a
family of 8, if we skimp we can get by on $750 per month in groceries. This
article is very misleading...
Common folks... lets not be extreme. Our entire lives are different now. In
the 50's, most if not all meals were made from scratch. How often does
that happen now days. I remember stories of my grandmother being the first
person on Yale Avenue to have an automatic cloths washer. Can anyone compare
the effort level today of doing many of these basic household task compared to
what they were 50 years ago. And I am sorry, if your kid doesn't get his
cub scout pin but instead has a fully funded college education, I would take the
college education. now this isn't to say it is wrong for women
to stay at home. Hardly. My wife as bounced from not working, to working full
time as a teacher, to part time based on the "family" needs. There was
no one right answer for all times.Trying to make people feel bad
because they work is just as bad as making people feel inferior because they
don't. What is best for the family varies from family to family. Some
have excellent support systems, and choose to explore their options. Worry about
your decisions - not others.Cub Scouts patches....
Re: UtahBlueDevilDon't you know we are not supposed to have
reasonable responses to articles like these? :)
@UtahBlueDevil,Comment of the day. Thank you. Cub scout patches
Please don't generalize Sally. Every family situation is unique and you
have the freedom to pick your own situation. Woman that work could say to those
that don't work that they pay more tithing or are more financially generous
in other ways. Do you think that comment would be taken very well by those that
chose not to work? Probably not. If someone is asking you to watch their kids,
their sick ones, or their elderly, ask to be paid if you feel you are being
taken advantage of. It is not your responsibility to save the world by
yourself. You can say no if it feels unfair to you. Or you could get the
ultimate revenge and get a part-time job and use the same tactics.
