I hope this bill passes so we can be treated to the spectacle of Utah sheriffs
at the border arresting federal authorities, to be followed by the firing of
cannon from Camp Williams on the US Army, to be followed by rebel yells, the
singing of "Dixie" (from the so-called "university" in St.
George), Gary Herbert laying down his semi-automatic rifle at Appomattox, er,
Salt Lake, etc. Should be entertaining.
Maybe a peak at the US Constitution might be called for before they pass this
Good. Let's keep it in the bottle forever.
Sorry, Ms. Hill, but "To waste the money on this …" is exactly
what Utah Republicans stand for.
Like immigration, gun laws of this nature a more likely to be governed by
national laws and Congress not individual states as this is a fundamental
Constitutional right that isn't subject to 50 individual state
interpretations. I would support a legislative resolution that offers the
State's opinion on this matter, but passing a state law that will be
pre-empted and federal law is a waste of the court's and taxpayer's
time and money to litigate. When Utah legislators talk about not being
emotional, it seems that this proposed law is mostly about emotion-based
response to what's going on nationally.
It's a good bill, and it is a shame that the the two representatives
running the committee are slickly using cowardly parliamentary maneuvers to kill
the bill instead of just bringing it up for a vote and voting against it.Representatives McIff and Lee Perry have been hostile to gun rights for
years, but are just sneaky about how they undermine law abiding citizens rights.
They both need to be replaced by new Representatives who will support and
defend the Constitution.
@dn sub"Law abiding citizens" do not advocate breaking
federal laws sorry.
While much of the rest of the U.S. is seeking gun safety for the people of this
country, some Utahns want gun chaos. Any person over 21 is allowed, under this
bill, to carry a weapon openly or concealed. This is without background checks
or gun safety class. Before this bill, a concealed carry permit required a
series of gun safety classes. You had to be certified as knowing the laws and
how to take care of the weapon and keep yourself reasonably safe to carry a
concealed weapon. No more, with this bill. If only we were all
patient with each other, always law-abiding, always wise.We
aren't.I find this bill ill-thought-out, agressive and
belligerent. It promotes the romantic (but false) idea that people are
always safer carrying a gun around, or in their homes, and that those around
them are safer.I am not automatically safer because people around me are
carrying guns. For all I know, they are one of the maniacs who are committing
these mass shootings or other crimes.Read the real statistics. Don't
be swayed by slogans and hysteria. This bill deserves to be permanently
Once again the new media is misinforming and twisting low information reports on
this law and its contents. The story leads off with disobeying the
presidents mandate to disarm the amreican people politically incorrect position.
We aren't preventing home invaders, we are stopping the president and
keeping his Mercenaries and brown shirts out of our lives private and public.People must not beleive what the local novelist fiction writers post on
TV, radio, and tabloid print, they have no credibility as americans or loyalty
to this country, the USA. This bill adds state legislative
endorsement of the 2nd amendment and citizens inalienable (god given) rights to
stop government and presidential oppression of rights and freedoms to save our
children and future generations.I would think that if these
religions really cared about the welfare and freedoms and choices their
congregations can have, they should the first in line to promote rights of
citizen entitlements to god and country and put caring for the poor as his job
and not that of government funding. Diocese should not put out there
hands to the poor begging for tithes then shun them and turn them away when they
are in need.
The assistance of state and local authorities in resisting unjust,
unconstitutional federal laws would be appreciated, but at the heart of it
it's up to the people themselves.
Constitution shall be the Supreme Law of the land All laws which are
repugnant to the Constitution are null and void (Marbury vs. Madison. Gun grabber like Mciff and Lockhart see it a bit differently as I see
it! They want to defend unconstitutional acts like gun confiscation. Why do Mciff and Lockhart mindset give creedence To the gun grab ? The Constitution and the Bill of Rights, are much more than a piece of paper.
The documents intentions and meanings are clearly put forth by our founding
fathers. We should see to it that the Constitution of Utah and the
United States and The Bill of Rights be strictly adhered to by those we elect to
Office. We remind you that the citizens of this republic are your employers and
any continued abrogation and usurpation of the protections and guaranteed rights
enumerated in the Constitution and Bill of Rights will result in your dismissal.
When The Governor says We should be honoring obeying and sustaining the
law of the land he leaves out "the Constitutional law of the land". As
was in the original statement by Joseph Smith.
