26 assists on 34 made field goals is phenomenal. It was nice to see BYU's offense starting to flow more smoothly.

Byu and Utah fans are lucky to have such national powers as Portland and Arizona visit our programs this week.

Our respective invitations to the pac12 and wcc have been great things!

    Congrats to both programs.

Glad BYU got the win, but honestly it didn't give me a lot of hope for beating Gonzaga or SMC. BYU didn't seem to play with the same intensity the 2nd half and generally just held the same lead in the 2nd half until the subs were put in at the end when Portland caught up a little.

Nice win but Portland is a bad team so they have won by more. The Cougs still struggle defending the long ball. This will be a problem when they play decent teams. IF they don't figure this out they will not go far in post-season play. Oh well, on the bright side, we are not the utes.

I think it's a bit unfair to say BYU collapsed in the second half against San Francisco. BYU did not play great in either half of that game, but sometimes teams just light it up and the ball goes in. SF did not miss a shot for 8 minutes in the second half, most shots were contested, some just bounced and bounced in, but they all went in--that does not happen very often, but when it does, it doesn't matter who you're playing, you're probably not going to win the game. 12 of 13 from behind the arc? most teams can't shoot that well in practice with nobody guarding them. It's just one of those games, and although I was disappointed in some of BYU's play, had SF shot a normal percentage in the second half, BYU would have won easily. Let's call it like it was--SF just couldn't miss in the second half, and it's tough to beat a team shooting like that.

    Crissy,
It seems that every conference has a few weak teams that the big boys get to pound on. The WCC has punching bags in Portland and the PAC 10.2 has Utah as their punching bag. Enjoy your elite status in the PAC 10.2.

    Sarcasm at its ugliest

"Byu and Utah fans are lucky to have such national powers as Portland and Arizona visit our programs this week."

I wonder what really motivates the person hiding behind the "Chris B" alias, to be so hateful and sarcastic. As I have said before, I really think it would be good if this person would head up to the "U" and get the advice of Coaches W and K on this kind of stuff. Maybe even talking to their Mom or Grandma would help. Maybe the hate can be channeled into something good.

    Re: Dumprake

While I agree with you that it is tough to beat a team that doesn't miss, let's be honest; BYU's defense was sorely lacking against SF. Yes, they made a bunch of contested shots. But they also had way too many wide open looks. And SF players were able to dash past BYU defenders into the paint all night long.

Yes, SF couldn't miss. But BYU still should could have won that game if they had stepped it up on defense. Before losing to St. Mary's, BYU often stepped up the defensive pressure in the 2nd half. Since then, they haven't had that extra intensity. They need to find it again. Quick. I would say they didn't even really have it yesterday against Portland.

does anyone else besides me think that Davies decides which move to use before he gets position and then tries it no matter what vs. instinctively reacting to what the defense is against him?

Glad to see Haws shoot better last night. His 4 of 17 shooting last week really damaged the team in the most recent loss. Glad he has the confidence to keep on firing away. I would like to see him look to pass a little bit more. Still too many bad forced shots. As long as he shooting well, things go well....

    Chris,

It has to be tough with no post season aspirations to look forward to. First football and now basketball. Enjoy the down time!

Haws could score 50 against a 12 year old. He struggles against D1 schools who rank in the top 50...

BYU's pathetic conference gives y fans lots of false hope....maybe a good thing!

Does byu have a victory this season against the RPI Top-50? Just curious.

UTAH has 2 such victories [current #'s 21 and 42] and 2 more against current #'s 70 and 84....And we're in the first year of rebuilding and have done so against currently the #60 ranked SOS.

Is it true that byu has won two games in the tourney only once since '81, when they had Ainge and registered the only year byu has ever won three games, yet never, ever reached the final four, correct? Just curious....Thanks.

Is it true that the Utes haven't won a NCAA tournament game in almost a decade?

A disappointing 20+ win, NCAA/NIT tournament, rebuilding year for BYU would be considered a monumental breakthrough by our little brothers on the hill.

U can deny it if it helps you sleep at night, but it is true.

Ancient history silly, jealous little bro!

Utah's Big Dance history during the Dave Rose era:

    2009 - #5 seed Utah EMBARRASSED by #12 seed Arizona 71-84!

    THAT'S IT! ONE game!

It's laughable that Utah basketball has become such a train wreck, that Utah has only managed to earn 7 NCAA berths since their finals run in 1998, only one in the last 8 seasons.

And from the pace of the never-ending rebuilding project on the hill, the Utes are years away from their next Big Dance.

The "runnin' Utes" basketball program is dead in the water.

    ------

Now tell us why it took the Utes over a hundred years (1894 to 1994) to crack the AP Football Top 25 and why they've only cracked it FIVE times during their entire history.

It only took your big brother 53 years (1922 to 1977) to crack the AP Football Top 25 and BYU has cracked it SEVENTEEN times since then, including a #1 finish.
