Mr. Bennett, the projections of 10 years ago were far more optimistic than the
reality turned out to be. When your party took control of the gov't we were
looking at eliminating the nat'l debt by 2013 (today!) But after charging
two major wars to the national credit card and deep-sixing the economy, your
party turned a promising future into a disaster we are just beginning to climb
out of. When will you and your party take responsibility for what you have done?
MR. Irony Guy.....the cost of two wars doesn't even equal a drop in the
deficit budget and the tax cut only amounts to 10% of our deficit problems. The
real reason why we have the deficit is because of medicare and medicaid costs
which have soared. Most of this is due to health care inflation (15-17% year
over year at a toon to 40% of total government outlays) but it also has to do
with an aging generation and more people going on to welfare (babyboomers and
the unemployed). Additionally we had two recessions in the same decade.Blaming the deficit on Republicans is a laughable attempt at a joke.
Medicare and Medicaid were both liberal programs started by democrats. and
Democratic refusal to change the programs to be more consumer driven (vouchers)
or cap-based (medicaid program developed by Mr. Liljenquist) is what further
endangers the programs of surviving into the next decade and furthers our
deficit troubles and that is not opinion based, its fact. Every audit which
talks about the programs talk about them being a going concern which in laymens
terms means bankrupt.
climbing out of? really
