Make the law applicable to all ages or don't do it at all. How would the
state legislators like it if there were a law proposed that fined them an extra
$100 for speeding? Does that make sense? One of the guarantees of America is
supposed to be equal protection under the law. Don't tell others how to
drive unless you're willing to live by the same laws yourself.
This law should be applied to everyone who drives, not just teenagers. No one
can drive and text without being distracted! The brain simply does not
multitask that way!
Agree, fines should be for anyone using their cell phone. I see plenty of so
called older more experience drivers that can't drive and talk, eat, read,
etc. This is not just young a young person problem it is everyones problem. I am
way past my teens and strongly feel the stupid things should all be put away
Why only teens? Why not ALL drivers of any age?I can't
remember any time I've had a close call with a teen on the phone. But
there have been many, many with adults phoning or texting. Two were even police
officers in patrol cars. This is the epitome of ludicrous lawmaking.
This is foolish legislation. One should not get a free pass to be a
distracted driver... just because they are old.
Let's all try, being accountable.
So ya, a few months ago a few friends and I set up a little cone course at a
church parking lot. Our intent was to show just how bad kids could be at driving
while texting or using their phones. While none of the teens passed without
knocking over at least one cone, they all did significantly better than all of
us parents. NO one should be using any device while attempting to drive. Period.
We're all in agreement that this law should apply to all drivers and
completely ban the use of cell phones while driving. Any distraction is
hazardous to driving, even talking and using mapping hardware. Unless driver
information is within drivers view through windshield than all device should be
illegal. The state should push for federal legislation to force the auto
industry to install HUD devices for driver information in vehicles using visual
technology.People in Utah want to drive like we have an autobahn
then we should have and enforce the same laws and licensing restrictions. No
eating, drinking, cell phones, and 3 year learning permits and privatize
independent drivers testing before they can get a license.Automobile
homicides are not taken serious by law enforcment and appropriate fines that
should become the property of the DMV and driver training to prevent cities from
using citations as a revenue for local governments.
I agree that texting and driving should be illegal and have penalties. That said, no law will stop law people from texting while driving. Serial
texters are still gonna drive and text. Does that mean that the laws are
useless?Isn't that the same logic used in the gun debate?
Let's all email our representatives in the legislature and urge that they
include all drivers regardless of age.
JoeBlow, You're right. Cell phones kill people. I say we go after them with
the same vigor that libs want guns. It's a great point. If all guns are bad
because less than 1% use them for violence, then the same can easily be said
about cell phones. Mark my words, some day someone will take out a bus full of
kids while texting and driving.
