There goes our hopes of being a 6 seed in the NCAA Tourney. Maybe next year.
At least we lost on the road, to a top 25, Conference of Champion and respected
program. You lost at home, to a weak cost conference member.Utah has 3 better wins than you do all season. We have a better
chance of dancing than you!
Embarrassing, maybe I was wrong when I said that BYU would make the NIT. They
don't look like they can win another game the rest of the way. That team
showed no heart tonight. 15 point lead blow that lead and lose at home to a bad
San Fran team by 12 and give up the most points in a regulation loss at home
since 1975. What a joke.
Is it just a coincidence that Carlino played very little of the first half and
most of the second half? Has that guy ever seen a horrible shot he didn't
like? Has he ever even attempted to play in control? Inquiring minds what to
Now an NIT bid is iffy. I'm turning off the lights. Bye.
BYU has probably lost its chance at the Big Dance Chris B - but at 11-13, UVU
has a better chance of dancing than the 10-13 Utes. My guess is BYU, Weber, and
Utah State to the NIT. No postseason for the Wolverines or Utes but some good
progress for the Utes this year.
Like I said earlier when you move to a pathetic conference you eventually blend
in in with the competition of that conference. it looks to me like that may be
happening much sooner than expected. Here's to the end of the BYU era
Goodbye Post season
San Francisco is a team that is probably about as good as Utah. This is their
second top 100 win - they also beat St. John's earlier in the season by 15
at home. So that is an indication that the Pac-12 is better than the WCC. If
Utah were playing in the WCC they would probably be .500 in the conference - in
the Pac-12 they are tied for last with a 2-9 conference record. BYU still has a
better shot of getting in than Utah does. Utah does have 3 better wins than BYU
does but they also have one really bad loss that BYU has nothing comparable to.
I'm pretty sure BYU also has a much higher chance than Utah does at winning
the conference tournament - although neither of their chances are that high for
Probably the worst half I have seen for BYU Basketball in the 50 years that I
have followed them... Poorly played and poorly coached...Hawes lost
his cool and the rest of the night was pretty horrible for him... Davies seems
to be getting worse with each game... You can tell that Carlino has had his ears
boxed by the coach for some poor floor decisions, seems like he either wants to
take every shot or make a spectacular pass that leads to a bucket every time he
handles the ball...From a coaching standpoint I am not understanding
why we don't go straight man-to-man when the other team is shooting lights
out... At least make the shooters dribble... Or maybe do a box and one to cool
off the hot shooter... I also don't understand why our best perimeter
Defender is sitting the bench till there is only 4 minutes to go (Winder)...
About 4 games ago I had big hopes for this team... Now I am seeing if I can get
my money back on the Vegas trip...Oh, and Chris B? Think SacState
and Northridge and 1-11 against BYU over the last 7 years.
Haws and Carlino could take a lesson from SF 45 (Doolin) - Pass the ball to your
The officiating tonight was horrible. When BYU was up 15, the refs did all they
could to get SF back in the game. Mission accomplished.
Inconsistency-- the term of our season. As I've mentioned before, so
consistency amongst our Big 3. If one is solid, the others rarely are. Haws is
clearly running out of steam and patience. Cougs fans, let's give USF
credit. They shot lights out in the 2nd half. Um, we did not. The frustrating
season continues. NIT? Let's hope.
Frustrating. This is not rocket science. When the other team is burning you
on 3's , switch to man on man and avoid help defense too much. You
kind of have to stay at home on defense. My problem, is why do I
have to say this. I know Dave is a better coach than this. This was a
coaching failure tonight couched with a incredibly hot Frisco team in the second
half. This team got let down by the coaches and I do like coach
Rose. The players have the abilities. Just relax and play and
have an enjoyable rest of the season. Heres hoping for a miracle in the WCC
Smells like karma in here.
I am not one who usually likes to blame officiating too much, but the Officials
in the WCC and particularly the Black lead official tonight were less than
consistent and it seemed like the lead official had some kind of vendetta that
he was taking out on the Cougs... They are playing poorly enough they don't
need further punishment from biased Refs.
poyman, in reality, these are mostly the same officials that you've always
had. Unlike football, where the officials are assigned to a conference,
basketball is done regionally. Most refs cover 2-4 games a week, all in
different conferences. So the MWC refs are Pac-12 refs are WCC refs are WAC
refs, etc, etc. The complaints about the "new refs" being even worse
than the "old" ones are tired. Just accept the fact that the fans on
both sides are never going to like the refs, but the refs aren't the ones
that allowed 14 3-pointers to go in.
@Ricardo Carvalho - "No postseason for the Wolverines or Utes but some good
progress for the Utes this year."I have no problem agreeing that
the Cougs are not half the team I thought they'd be this year I thought
we'd be on par with last year after losing Hartsock and Abuo, but picking
up Haws and a couple of JCs. But such is not the case. However to
argue that the Utes are progressing is an overstatement. If the U had the same
non-conference games as last year, their record would be worse than last year.
They have had a couple of good games this year, but they had a couple of good
games last year also. They do have a better base to build on, assuming there is
not another exodus of players.I don't think the Cougs can
afford to lose to another team not named Gonzaga or St Mary's if we want to
make it to the NIT.
The Cougars really miss the consistency of Hartsock and the rebounding and
defense of Abuo. Even with the addition of Hawes and the improvement of Sharp
this is a poorer team than last year's. I am beginning to suspect that
Hawes is somewhat of a head case. And if Carlino could just learn to stifle
himself a little bit, he'd be great.
We've been spoiled. Personally I tend to forget that we have 5 sophomores
playing a lot of minutes and we lost 2 good big men to injuries. The future
looks better than Chris B's Utes.
