Here's an idea to limit drivers and pollution. First raise the driving
limit to 18. Lots of European countries already have this and it will take a
percentage of people off the roads. Second we need an "suv tax" on
vehicles that weigh more than X lbs. Use the money gained from the tax on
SUV's for subsidies on smaller vehicles. I don't understand the
average SUV owner. They spend two or three times as much money feeding an SUV
compared to owning a smaller vehicle. And what they're paying for besides a
couple extra seats is more rubber, more plastic, and more metal. All that
plastic metal and rubber take more energy to move around. Not to mention the
increased pollution. Yes, I drive a compact that will get 35-42 on the highway
depending on speed. No hypocrisy here.
What? SUV tax? I used to drive an SUV, and trust me, between the low gas mileage
and high gas prices, you get "taxed" for sure. Besides, gas is already
heavily taxed such that those who use more, pay more. No hypocrisy there. I paid
3-4 times more gas tax than the small car driver easily. That was MY choice,
I'm not complaining, just stating how it is.My 8 seat suv was
also the "go to" vehicle for hauling kids to baseball games, dance
comps, and we always drove on "couples date night" so we kept 2-3 extra
cars off the roads by driving our "gas hog". I'll tell you what, if
you want to drive a smaller car, do it. But, don't ask someone else to
"subsidize" your vehicle. That's outrageous! I'll bet you
voted for Obama. Where else would you get that entitlement attitude?
If we want to limit young drivers lets take their cars away from them too and
make them walk to school, a form of phisical excercise we can call it. Clear the
parking lots will have many positive affects on the environment, their health,
and class room participation by being there, maybe even become educated. Then there is a misconception on vehicle emission ratios which is proven
false. First, persoanl vehicle emissions are irrelevant and don't pollute,
but commercial use and vehicle over 1 ton do because they have lower emissions
standards to reduce business cost and maintenance and fleets of vehicles.
Business owners in the legislature exempt themselves from emission compliance,
they have 2.5 million workers to pick on.Then truth is emerging that
alternative fuels and non gas electric vehicles do more to cause pollution than
gas hogs and gas powered vehicles of all sizes in the hands of commuters. But
you will never see that report again, its too controversial denying Obama his
claim to alternative energy hoax and the news media would not dare to make our
president look like an idiot.
Make your carpool lanes like Phoenix does, restricted only during rush hour,
Mon-Fri 6am-9am and 3pm-7pm. The rest of the time, and all weekend, they are
additional lanes, cross over the solid white line at anywhere, anytime, with no
dashed-line exit and entrance points.Utah's current carpool
lanes tend to mimic Los Angeles, except without the double yellow lines, which
nationwide mean do not cross. Utah's use of double white lines is somewhat
confusing to drivers from other states.
It felt like I used up my entire 30 hour allotment yesterday in the snowstorm
between SLC and Ogden.
Someone needs to feed the haze with exhaust gas for the rest of us to breath in.
Better yet, eliminate carpool lanes all together. They are inefficient; they
cause bottlenecking in the other lanes impeding the flow of traffic (i.e. thank
you shortening the North bound express lane a Layton mall; it helped traffic
flow). They are unsafe; the congestion they cause in the other lanes increases
the risk of everyone else (I imagine there have been more accident
-proportionally - in the other lanes). Congestion in the other lanes adds to the
air-pollution problem. They are costly because taxpayers still have to pay for
them and it cost taxpayers extra to manage them. They don't pay for
themselves. And can we stop pretending they encourage carpooling when anyone
that is willing to pay can use them. They are an express lane in name only
– call them what they really are - toll lanes (free to those who carpool).

The liberal Californians need to stop the coal burning in Utah, but it does
bring lots of money for Utahns. People or money? Californians or Utahns?
Choices are so hard for federal bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.
Another suggestion is to make most, if not all, left turn lights flashing
yellows when oncoming traffic is moving. Switch the flashing yellow to solid
yellow before the light turns red. This would allow more traffic movement.
