Shocking. Dems want him to step down, and rwepublicans are indecisive. At least
ksl has donue actual reporting. I did hetar the SLTrib May have a defamation
lawsuit headed their way cope how badly and biased their Gerhke reporting was
that started this whole typing. Those liberals deserve it. Shoddy reporting.
Just plain embarassing. It's no wonder people believe it. Newte was spot on
about liberal media. And you guys lick it up.
Polls? If polls meant anything in this state the GOP would have properly funded
education and passed legislation to clean up our air. The GOP has circled the
wagons and we all need to Swallow and just learn to love our new Attorney
So what? He won't, at least not without a golden parachute provided by a
republican party crony. And where the heck was Shurtleff when all this was going
on between his chief deputy and the criminal.
Having now heard the recorded meeting, it's clear that Swallow, at best,
wasn't smart enough to get up and leave. He may have not crossed the line
of legality - let's be honest, that line scarcely exists in Utah anyway -
but his very participation in that meeting exposes him either as a willing
participant or a hapless patsy, neither of which is what we need in the
The irony here is very clear. Lets reverse the issue. Lets pretend the new SL
County Major is in the same boat as the new AG. Know what the polls would say,
exactly the opposite. The "D's" would call for moderation, the
"R's" would seek his head. That is the sadness of
politics. There is never any middle ground for any issue. "I am absolutely
right and the other side is absolutely wrong and they are bums to boot".The other irony is it is always the fault of the State of Utah. Glad I
am not a state!!
Looks a little shady to me! I think he should be forced to step down!
Why don't we all just settle down and wait for the investigation to be
completed?!In the meantime, Mr. Johnson has provided a very good
smoke screen and diversion away from himself. Very clever, very clever.
Let's let the investigation be completed. But in the meantime, perhaps
Swallow should place himself on leave.
There's a bigggggg difference between illegal and unethical, and people
being polled jumping to snap judgments without hearing all the evidence is not a
reliable system of justice. That's what courts and trials are for.
@AKrackerIllegal or Unethical makes no difference. He is the top law
enforcement officer in the state. He has lost the trust of the people and has
cast a dark shadow over the AG's Office. He needs to leave office for the
good of law enforcement. He needs to be wiser with whom he has private meeting
and he was working in the AG's office at the time.
He should not step down as nothing is proved. Let the investigation run its
course. He claims his innocense so he should have time for the investigation to
Mr. Swallow should step down. We already know what we need to know. As deputy
attorney general, Swallow was taking, distributing, and keeping cash in order to
influence an ongoing FTC investigation. He admits to it. The fact that he sees
nothing wrong with that makes him even less qualified to hold his current
position. His actions are unacceptable to anyone but the most blind partisan.
@Call4ModerationSo now investigative journalism is defamation? At
least one paper in Utah is actually investigating this.
The results of the investigation are needed before anything can be decided as to
whether the he did anything unethical or illegal. Even if it was
unethical conduct and not illegal, the Utah State Bar should act accordingly.
Attorney licenses are a privilege to hold and unethical conduct is serious.
"Do they know about the houseboat?" Swallow asks in the
April 30, 2012, meeting that Johnson secretly recorded. "Is
there any paper trail on that?""There’s no paper trail
on the houseboat. Nobody knows about it," Johnson assures him."There’s no email, there’s no ... " Swallow continues
before Johnson interrupts."No emails on the thing," Johnson
reiterates, "and, no, my wife doesn’t even know you were on
there."Yeah, that all sounds on the up and up doesn't it?
Oh good. Let's get all the corrupt politicians to resign.I
think Obama should lead the way. He should set an example.
It is a travesty to think that Mr. Swallow was likely elected on the basis of
many Utahns voting on straight party ballots; our brilliant legislature defeated
a measure to eliminate straight party voting. Parties have a right and a place
in political campaigning and fundraising, but have no business being on the
ballot itself. The ballot and election are paid for by the public and
administered by the state not private interests. We would balk at political
endorsements from Chevron or Greenpeace on our ballot, then why allow their
proxies? I had friends who worked on John Swallow's bid for
U.S. Representative, but all of them quickly left his campaign with an unsettled
gut feeling about him. Each commented that he seemed like a nice enough guy
with the "right" credentials, but he never inspired much confidence.
Ambiguous position, certain casual remarks, and conflicting mannerisms deviated
from their expectation of a political archetype. While this may seem
anecdotal, the currency of politics is trust and loyalty within a predictable
system of reliable behavior. These subtle clues undercut Mr. Swallow back then
and during the recent election too. But what the heck, he belongs to my party,
Is there seriously nothing else to report on? This is just old newsSame thing
every day, except there's a new poll about this orth that by people who
only marginally have any kind of clue. If this was a democrat, people would just
calm it an honest mistake and move on. Wasn't illegal. And proving
something is unethical is ridiculously hard, if it even was. I'm gonna be
dead and buried before thus story dies. Sheesh.
At least he knows Senator Reid and not Senator Lee sounds better as a source of
Where is Mark Shurtleff? Why has he not backed up John Swallow? Liberals will be
thrilled to push John Swallow out of office but why aren't more questions
asked about Harry Reid? How do we know that Harry Reid isn't up to his
eyebrows on this whole matter. Republicans should circle the wagons wait for the
investigation and not be pushed by the lynch mob mentality of gotcha journalism.
