Regardless of whatever future changes there are to the college football
landscape, there will be two constants:1. Utah will be IN2.
byu and usu will be OUTI love my BCS and Pac 12 membership!
Cougs at the mercy of the Mountain West Conference.Nice.
Hawaii will not be in the championship game.Problem solved.
Chris B is correct.Utah will be IN sipping on a nice cup of warm
milk during the bowl games and BYU and USU will be OUT of state at their
respective bowl games.
Tell me if I'm wrong but Utah has been more of a bottom feeder in the Pac
12 and has not helped their cause of belonging in the Pac 12. And I don't
see Utah's future changing for the better anytime soon, other than a new
offensive cordinator and maybe a new head coach after next year. The
way I see it after 2013 BYU, Utah State, and even Hawaii will have just a good a
chance of making it to a BCS game than Utah. It will be great to see Utah get
beat up year after year in the PAC 12! And see Utah State and BYU when 10-11
games a year!
REgardless of whatever the future brings, there will be two constants:1. The government will tax.2. Chris B will post on every BYU story.
@54IQHardly. Not that big of a deal to change the date of that game
as there are a couple of dates that will work. I always thought 12/7 was a
strange date to schedule a game anyway as most teams are done playing and into
bowl preparation (other than utah of course which is just done) by that date.
Maybe the though was taking a bye earlier and then having less time between your
last game and your bowl game means you stay in shape and game ready. Either way it won't be a big deal. Now not even going to a bowl game and
having a losing record? That's a big deal, espcially when you have a very
tenuous "fan"base and not much of a legacy to begin with.
If we lose this game, how many do we need to fill for next year? It appears
that we may only be playing 7 games next year at this rate.
Chris B and 54IQ post so quickly after the article goes live, it makes you
wonder if they are Deseret News employees? or the actual authors of the
articlesas for the Mountain West... no-one cares, good riddance
I think the following must have gotten cut off:@Chris B - Regardless
of whatever future changes there are to the college football landscape, there
will be two constants:1. Utah will be IN - the bottom 1 or 2 in
football, basketball and baseball, like they are now.2. byu and usu will
be OUT - working hard to improve their schools and athletic programs.I take pride in how my school is doing, not what conference I'm in.
Warrior ParentChris B and 54-IQ are the same person and yes,
they/she is closely connected to the D-News.Regardless, BYU has an
outstanding schedule for next season and most BYU fans will be very pleased with
it when it's announced.
The Middle Tenn. ST. game can be scheduled Nov 30, but not Sep 14, as they
tentatively have Memphis on that date. Hawaii can be scheduled on Sep 14, but
not Nov 30, as they tentatively have ARMY on that date. Both Hawaii and Mid.
Tenn. ST. could be scheduled on either Sep 28 or Nov 2, as neither have games
scheduled as yet on those dates. It will have to be seen whether any of those
dates will work out for either or both or these teams, after their conference
schedules are finalized. It appears that some tweeking will need to occur on
the BYU schedule. The 10 games (5 home and 5 away) on BYU's tentative
schedule are also listed on their opponents' schedules, except for Idaho
State, although the Utah, Utah State, and Boise State, schedules are
"tentative", and Idaho State has not added BYU to their 11 game
schedule. The Idaho State schedule has an open date of Nov 16. They cannot
play on Dec 7 as that is when the FCS holds its championship game. It will be
interesting to see the final schedule when it comes out.
I love Chris B's comment, "I love my pac 12"!
Chris B's actual comment was, "I love my BCS and Pac 12
Crissy B,I didn't realize that you owned the BCS and the PAC 10.2
enough to call it yours!! Enjoy the BCS and PAC 10.2 affiliation, especially
since the BCS will be dead soon and he PAC 10.2 will run out of patience with a
sluggish Utah program in the major sports and uninvite them. Better to be an
independent winning program that be the perenial bottom feeder of any
conference. I agree with CougFanin TX, better to be a winner.
Yep, blame it on Craig Thompson for whatever reason he choose to do.
A trip to Hawaii would be nice if BYU were in Utah's position (and excluded
from bowl participation for insufficient wins). Hawaii needs BYU more than the
other way around. BYU has always been Hawaii's biggest rival in football
(although the same could be said of Utah, San Diego State, New Mexico, and
UNLV). It would be nice for BYU to just skip the Hawaii trip this year to focus
on a BCS bowl or the Kraft Bowl in San Francisco.
Its to bad the Y left the MTW conf. they would be looking pretty nice right now
if they would have stayed. The conferences are aligning and the Y is
on the outside looking in.New T-shirt "Quest 4 BCS"
Scotty"the Y is on the outside looking in"On the
outside looking in a what, a conference bottom dweller that will never be a
contender for a division title, let alone, a conference title?Big
@ TrollPolice"On the outside looking in a what" The new BCS playoff system, duh! In case you haven't heard but the
Mountain West has automatic access to one of the six BCS bowls if their
conference champion is the highest ranked of the "mid-major
conferences". An indy BYU team has no automatic access to a
major bowl game. So Mr. Farcus is right! BYU is on the outside looking in! "a conference bottom dweller that will never be a contender for a
division title, let alone, a conference title?"At least Utah is
stepping up to the plate playing better competition week in and week out! Unlike
BYU that can't beat anyone good on their schedule but has enough cupcakes
on their schedule to make them bowl eligible.
The effect on the Y's schedule will be felt well beyond 2013. With the
additional teams in the MWC and the conference title game will preclude
additional teams from being available to play non-conference games ones
conference play begins in late Sept. Have hope Idaho is an independent and New
Mexico State probably has open dates. Who knows what the remenant team from the
Big Least will do? So some games may be available in November... good luck.
Little trolls talking about 'on the outside looking in' while their
little pathetic team is on the inside looking up with drooling mouths salivating
at opportunities to NEVER come their way again... Hey BCS lovers... Did you
accept the fact that this year's super bowl is a matchup of a University of
Deleware v University of Nevada Reno QB's? Seems that BCS is only all that
while in college playing football but then.... Crickets.... and this is the last
season of the BCS nonsense so get off your high horse of insanity already!
In other news a University of Michigan grad threw 2 interceptions in the second
half of a critical turned season ending championship game while that said U of D
qb was calm and collected and slowly marched his team to the Super Bowl.
PAC 10.2 bottom dwellerPlaying "better competition"
doesn't mean diddly, if U don't beat anybody good.Oh wait,
U did beat one "good" team, BYU! Lucky U.BYU played FIVE Top 25 teams and beat one, #16 Utah State, along with
ACC division champ Georgia Tech (which dominated USC in the Sun Bowl), and San
Diego State (co-champion of the MWC).Utah only played TWO Top 25
teams and lost to both.As mediocre as BYU's season finished, at
least BYU came close to beating every team they played, except Oregon State.
Four of BYU's five losses were by less than a touchdown.Utah,
on the other hand, wasn't even close in most of their losses. All seven of
Utah's losses were by at least a touchdown, and five of them were
double-digit losses. The new playoff system is meaningless to a team
that is so hopelessly entrenched at the bottom of their conference.
whoami"With the additional teams in the MWC and the conference
title game will preclude additional teams from being available to play
non-conference games ones conference play begins in late Sept."What a clueless statement. The MWC is only playing an 8-game
conference schedule. Throw in Hawaii and teams that play in Hawaii, and more
than half the conference could have five OOC games to schedule. With the PAC 12
off limits to OOC games after September and the WAC no longer in the football
business, who do you think all of those MWC teams will be calling to help them
fill their OOC schedules?
Pac 12 loves u, chris, and all of the others who couldn't gain admission to
BYU - continuing to post on articles related to BYU isn't going to change
that painful defeat. 54-10 won't. Nothing will. That's just who you
Let's see, Utah's projected payout from the BCS playoff is $3.2
million while BYU's is $200,000. Nope, no difference there. The Rose Bowl
is locked into the PAC 12 vs Big 10 and now the Sugar Bowl is locked into the
SEC vs Big 12. Yep, the BCS bowls are quickley locking in their partners
without BYU or the MWC. So, tell me again how Utah does not benefit from PAC 12
membership? Mayor Becker of Salt Lake City even made mention of the benefits to
the City of Utah's PAC 12 membership in his state of the city address. The
mayor of Provo can only wish and dream.
@ PAC 12 loves UHave you seen BYU’s unofficial schedule for
next year? On the other hand (Utah)playing Colorado, Weber State,
and Washington State on your schedule is pretty Weak. And plus in 2014 Utah
decides to play Fresno State instead of BYU is pretty darn inexcusable!
Dutchman, you're correct, Utah gets a bigger payout from the BCS however
what you do with it is what matters. There are lots of Utahs, Wake Forests,
Dukes, Indianas, etc. in BCS conferences...
Dutchman"Utah's projected payout from the BCS playoff is
$3.2 million while BYU's is $200,000"- and it'll still
take years for U to match the facilities already in place at the Y"The Rose Bowl is locked into the PAC 12 vs Big 10" - and
still no more "accessible" to the Utes than it was when the Utes were in
the WAC/MWCThe "benefits" are only meaningful if they
improve the product on the field. So far, there's little evidence of that
happening, but at least U get to enjoy the Holidays, at home.
.....There are lots of Utahs, Wake Forests, Dukes, Indianas, etc. in BCS
conferences...And yes there will soon be only one true independent,
BYU, playing Idaho and New Mexico State and never vying for a conference title.
You didn't mention Stanford in your list of bottom feeders yet the Cardinal
just won their first Rose Bowl in 42 years. I don't see Stanford asking to
leave the PAC 12 or go independent. Utah is not even getting the full PAC 12
revenue yet and already the construction crews are busy. The new football
center in nearly complete impressing recruits, the new track facility is
complete, a new women's softball complex is under construction, and Chris
Hill just released a video (you can view it on youtube) showing the plans for
RES expansion and a new men's and women's basketball practice
facility. Chip Brown of orangebloods just released a report today discussing
possible Big 12 expansion plans. He did not mention BYU. Sorry Cougs, but you
are falling behind and it will only get worse.
I cannot get over the contentment of U fans for merely being in the PAC 12. How
much respect nationally does anyone have for Washington State footall? They
have been in for many years, but have done little or nothing while
"belonging". Utah got way more respect when it made it to the BCS both
times than it gets now for merely belonging. Isn't it time to set your
sights higher than just merely belonging, or just beating a weakling independent
rival? How about the USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Stanford? How about the Rose bowl?
@dutchmanInteresting how you ignore the fact that utah is a losing
program in decline and that not one single sport it sponsors in the pac12 even
had a winning record. utah has an abysmal athletic program, litterally one of
the worst in all of D1.utah "fans" are delsuional.LOL!
Dutchman "You didn't mention Stanford in your list of
bottom feeders yet the Cardinal just won their first Rose Bowl in 42
years."That's probably one more Rose Bowl than the Utes
will win in the next 42 years. It'll be interesting to see which
team takes long to get to their first Rose Bowl - Arizona, which has been
waiting 35 years, or Utah, which is just getting started."Utah
is not even getting the full PAC 12 revenue yet and already the construction
crews are busy."It remains to be seen whether the teams that
occupy Utah's new facilities will be any good. At least teams visiting
Utah's new digs will be able to enjoy the facilities Utah's PAC 10.2
associates are helping to finance.
Somehow I'm suspicious the MWC, bitter and disillusioned, scheduled their
championship game specifically to adversely affect BYU. But losing Hawaii is
hardly a loss...one of the worst teams in America last year.
Interesting how you ignore the fact that utah is a losing program in decline and
that not one single sport it sponsors in the pac12 even had a winning record.

D1.utah "fans" are delsuional.Your hate is
really starting to get the better of you.Have you considered professional
help?At the very least, have sammyhunter answer for you. At least that
personality still has his sense of humor.
The Cougars may do well to consider postponing to another season or even
canceling the game at Hawaii. They probably do not want to move that game to
open dates before the Utah and Notre Dame games either. They may already have
12 games scheduled anyway, and would not need a money-losing 13th outing.
Cougs, you are involved in an athletic facilities arms race now that you cannot
win unless you substantially increase athletic revenues by 1)joining the Big 12,
Big 10, SEC or PAC 12 or 2) Getting a huge new TV deal with ESPN worth $25
million a year or 3) Get the owners of BYU (LDS Church) to seriously upgrade the
amount of money they already pour into BYU and its facilities or some
combination of the above. Based on the lack of constrution I see on and around
the BYU campus either for academic or athletic facilities I believe the Board of
Trustees interest lies in building a world wide church and the facilities
required for that endeavor rather than participating in an arms race for
athletic facilities. An invite from one of the aforementioned conferences or a
bigger TV deal from ESPN do not seem likely. BYU's options are limited.
Donors can help but the church also needs those donations to build the world
wide church. You don't agree with me but I see BYU being left behind and I
don't see an overwhelming interest from the owners to change the
@proud uteUh.... can you refute the actual statement? Of course you
can't because it is FACT. utah's athletic program is one of the very
worst in all of D1 posting LOSING records in just about every single sport in
the most recently completed academic year. That is right LOSING RECORDS in
almost every single sport. And as if that isn't bad enough this
season is only marginally better with them posting losing records again in
almost EVRY SINGLE SPORT.But hey when FACTS get in the way of
reality utah "fans" like yourself just resort to deflection and name
In reference to my comment on 1/23, Idaho State says on its website that it is
scheduling a 12th game, but will announce it at a later date. That game is
thought to be at BYU. Idaho State has 11 games scheduled with an open date of
11/16. They also have 11/30 open, so their game at LES could be either of those
two dates. If it were 11/30, the 11/16 date might work for BYU to travel to
Hawaii, depending on whether or not Hawaii schedules a MWC game on that date.
The MWC schedule is not finalized as yet, so we'll have to se what happens.
@duckhunter/sammyA little harsh on your rivals, aren't we?
Remember, the U still owns the Y. For a brief reminder, 24-21 last year, 54-10
(No, that's not a typo) the year before, 17-16 the year before, in fact 8
out of the last 11, and overall 56-34-4.While we are adjusting to
the vast increase in competition on a weekly basis, we will at least continue to
@duckyg Don't become all unhinged on me now brother. Alot of
caps there, hope you took a breath or two while you pounded that diatribe out.
Pretty much proves you're not a coog fan, just a Utah hater.
Do adults, or anybody for that matter, still use LOL?
Welcome to the new normal. With two divisions and a title game, BYU
can no longer expect any MWC teams -- (even ones as pathetic as Hawaii) to
schedule after October.
