Years ago I was struggling with some personal issues unrelated to parenting, but
while talking with my bishop, he was looking to send a couple to the parenting
course his stake was hosting, mostly because they just needed someone in the
class from the ward. My wife and I said, "Why not?" We took the class
having no serious issues with our parenting or our children. Still we found the
help we received in those classes to be really great, and it brought us closer
together as a couple because we learned about ourselves in the process. I
wholeheartedly advocate parenting courses to all parents, no matter their level
or expertise or whether or not they're having problems. A lot of the advice
may not apply, but even the affirmations that come from discovering you've
done some things correctly really boosts your spirits as a parent and makes you
realize that you're accomplishing the very most important job in the world.
I agree that raising kids is the most important job in the world. The time and
energy my husband and I put into taking parenting classes and developing our
skills was the best gift we gave our children – and ourselves!
