Is there anyone out there that has gotten a ticket or know someone who has
gotten a ticker for texting while driving that was not related to an accident?
It would seem the law that bans texting while driving is not enforced unless
there is an accident. Why pass laws that aren't enforced? Maybe the
question is how do you get traffic laws enforced even though there is not an
@Fitz... it's impossible to enforce it. Unless there is a law stating no
use of your phone while driving period, it's impossible for law enforcement
to know whether you're making a call or sending a text at the time they see
Chris is correct, which is why there should be a total ban, for many reasons.
One can google why the brain cannot do two tasks at once, i.e., talking on the
phone and driving at the same time. It is akin to drunk driving!
Maybe require those who purchase cell phone plans that include texting to have a
device installed in their vehicle that intercepts the cell signal when the
vehicle is turned on??? Then the driver cannot text while driving. This may be
draconian, so maybe require it for anyone who has caused an accident while
texting and driving, but that is closing the barn door after the cows have gone
out. Too bad people are so self-centered they think their call or
text is more important than the safety of those around them.
Let's just forbid persons who own cars to purchase cell phones. Sound
ridicules? it's intended to. Let's restrict persons who have
electricity in the house to own a screwdriver or a bobbie pin in the event a
toddler sticks it in the socket. Sound ridicules? it's intended to.People make poor choices every day and at times those choices have
tragic unintended consequences. Every person alive has or will make many poor
choices in their lives. In this case the driver is facing 2 felony counts and
looking at a possible 20 years in prison not to mention financial ruin. It is impossible for police to know when an offense is about to occur
and it's not their duty to know. I'm sorry for all
involved in this deal but it's time people police themselves rather than
expect the police to police all the people. I don't ever remember hearing
that being dumb, stupid, or just not paying attention was or is against the law.
