Nice win. It's great to see this team starting to come together.
It as nice to see so many assists. BYU is discovering the 2-point shot again.
Good defense by the cougars. Guys are starting to learn their roll
on the team. Sharp is so scrappy.Good win on the road.
Did anyone else notice the 41-32 scored in both the 1st and 2nd? How often does
that happen? I bet it will be a while before we see it again. :)
This team continues to impress. I had some concerns earlier in the year with
this team. The problems that I saw with Carlino only taking 3 pointers and
layups have been improved. I knew Zylstra had talent. At least half of his
shots today were not 3 pointers. When he uses a variety of shots, he is
monumentally better. Haws was awesome today and did not try to do too much.
Even though Davies did not play particularly well, they still pounded the ball
into him so that he can get out of his funk faster. I still think Brandon
needs to get more touches at the elbow or anywhere 15 feet from the basket. He
is so fast and can drive to the hoop. He also can assist well. Austin needs
to spot up and become the next Hartsock in the 15 to 18 foot range. Although
the performance of the players today was not perfect, good decisions, good
defense, high percentage shot selection and good coaching turned the game into a
rout. That probably pleases me more than just getting lucky with 3 point
shooting. Much more sustainable against good teams. I see the Tourney in
Congrats Cougars on a great team win; BYU is learning how to play as a team,
spreading the wealth with FIVE players scoring in double figures on 54% shooting
(50% for 3pt); 18 assists on 30 made FGs. Haws had a monster game 10-14 for 24
pts, 5 reb, 1 ast, 3 stl.14-4 on the season, 4-0 in the WCC, inching
closer to another NCAA tourney berth.
What a great game by the Cougs, against a good SCU team. This was the most well
rounded effort of the season. Seven guys contributed to the win. Winder was
the surprise of the day. In fact, it was when Winder came in that SCUs drought
began. He is very good on perimeter defense.
I really enjoyed watching this game, I thought BYU had great passing and ball
movement. SC is a big team and moving the ball like they did helped to get open
shots which guys did a good job of putting in the basket. This team is becoming
quite a bit of fun to watch. Not bad for a "down" year so far.
