I think it was the statue of rebel soldiers, rebel flag and mock slave auctions
that brought up unpleasant issues. Nobody is protesting Dixie cups after all.It's kind of too late. They ran with Dixie as if had something to
do with the slave south and now it's too late to undo it.
This whole controversy is nothing more than a tempest in a tea pot created by
political correctness run amok. It is a sad symptom of an over-sensitive society
that has become scared to do anything that might possibly offend even the
tiniest and most extreme group.There is nothing sinister about the
name "Dixie" as used in St. George. It is a historically honored name
that should remain.The citizens of St. George must not give in to
pressure by left-wing extremists. They must honor their forefathers by keeping
the name Dixie.
