Great that Carlino could step up two games in a row. This game was definitely a
knuckle biter, it was only with 2.7 seconds to go and Carlino hitting two free
throws to give BYU a 4 point lead that I felt confident BYU would win. With
about 35 seconds left BYU had a 7 point lead that quickly became 1 point! Kaufusi even played as Davies fouled out and BYU's other big men
kept getting fouls called on them! Hard to believe that Haws missed three free
throws in one game! Dons were really good, especially Doolin who
seemed to keep the Dons in the game at the end. The Dons might be really
impressive next year!
A total team effort in this one. Sat 3 rows in back of the Cougar bench. Very
intense game to watch. Obnoxious USF fans right behind us finally got shut up in
a painful loss. Go Cougars! Carlino was terrific.
Gonzaga has this Bulldog way of first getting, then hanging onto a lead, never
letting its opponent lead for more than a few seconds, if at all, but always
playing from a lead position, as it did Sat. night against Santa Clara. San
Francisco-Y game looked to be the same, so it was with great relief to this fan
that the Y was able to come from behind to win. Basketball Cougars have trouble
with consistency this year. Need more mental toughness, to play hard all the
On a night when Davies only played 17 mins and Haws was missing free throws,
while San Francisco was shooting lights out from 3-point and out shooting the
Cougars across the board, BYU still managed to overcome a double-digit 2nd half
deficit to escape with an 80-76 win on the road.Carlino and Zylstra
provided the scoring punch BYU lost with Davies' foul trouble, and Sharp
was a monster on the boards and shutting down Doolin with the game on the
Carlino really stepped up when it counted. So did Josh Sharp. His rebounding
was huge. This should give the team confidence that they can win even without
Davies on the floor. Of course it is much better when he is in the game.I thought some of Davies fouls were very nit picky.
Good teams win even if one of their stars is down. Lots of individual effort.
Congrats to Carlino and Zylstra for stepping up.
To have a shot against a team like the Zags, we'll need Davies, Haws and
Carlino to shine; with solid effort from Zylsta and Sharp. Great to see Carlino
coming on, but disappointing when we can only get 17 minutes out of Davies
before fouling out. I guess I could understand if he fouled out in a 30+ minute
effort, but 1 foul every 3 minutes from a Senior, veteran is not acceptable. Although I have to say, I think we played better when Davies was on the
bench with the smaller line-up last night.
@OougFanunTx i seen at least 2 times when a SF player came down on top of
Davies and Davies got the foul called on him, then the last foul he got hit on
top of the head and he got the foul called on him, but this is typical of the
WCC refs they have their favorite teams and are very biased, and it has been this
way for over 20years,that's why the Zags have won the championshipo so
many times, they have a good team but they always get a little extra help from
