Isn't this the same as what happened last time these two met on the
hardwood? Had a lead and then squandered it away??? One of these days... Baylor
you WILL go down to the Cougars!
This BYU squad has two good players in Hawes and Davies, and the others are
mediocre. I hope this changes as the season progresses. Go cougs!
This has to be one of the most disappointing teams in Coach Rose's career
Baylor seemed much more physical and active...at the latter part of game,
Cougars looked defeated, no one helping Davies much, perhaps no confidence among
the guards. Suddenly this team seems very weak, lacking muscle and motivation.
The Lakers have found their next bad actor in the guy who flopped big time when
he wasn't even hit in the face. He fell down 1/2 second after being
"hit" in the face, and the refs fell for it, even after video evidence.
That was the turning point in the game.BYU is just not an NCAA
tourney team this year. They get beat by about 15 points against any decent
team, and they just don't know how to play against teams like that,
especially on the road. Baylor was very beatable, but they got throttled. BYU
looks like they are just reloading this year and should be a lot better next
year with their amazing class coming in.
Thank goodness we've got Northern Arizona to help us lick our wounds.
Gonzaga will be a similar story. I think Rose got outcoached with the physical
play that Baylor used. Can BYU boys really play with the big boys from the Hood
and from other tougher conferences? If I were an opposing coach against BYU for
the rest of the year, I'd tell my players to be as physical as they can and
don't worry about the consequences of fouling out of games because a lot of
those fouls don't get called since the officials don't like to take
the game away from the players. Would Jabari (Parker) or Jimmer (Ferdette) have
made any difference? I'm afraid it's going to be a long season in
Time to give Winder a chance to play. Cusick played very poorly. He made
several bad passes, missed his shots and showed no athleticism. Not sure why
the coach likes him so much. His shooting percentage was very bad something
like 0%. This team needs more athletes.
It was another Cougar "Jekell and Hyde" performance! For the first part
of the 1st half, they were "Dr. Jekell", wonderful and fun to watch.
Then Cusick got an intentional call and it went south from then on. It's
the kind of game that feeds into the painful perception that we only win against
lesser opponents but almost always chokes against better competition. All in all, it was another bittersweet experience. When they were good, I was
giddy. When they started turning into "Mr. Hyde" and made lots of
stupid turnovers and missed easy shots and layups, it became painful to watch.
Besides, when you have to depend on Davies and Haws night in and night out
without much help from the others, then it's easy to see the kind of
results like they had last night. It's the thrill of victory and agony of
defeat. Thrilled with the football team's awesome bowl performance and the
agony of the bb team's loss to Baylor last night. Better luck
next time Cougs, again!
Tough loss. Just not sure if this years team is an at large tournament team.
They've had double digit losses against Notre Dame, Iowa State, Florida
State and Baylor.
Once again showing it takes more than two players to win. Baylors starting five
all score in double digits. BYU's starting five - only Davies and Haws
score in double digits. It's time to shake up the starting
rotation again. Let's try Amrosino at the 4, Calvert at the 2 and Delgado
at the PG. Although I have to admit, Austin played decent on defense and the
boards. At least try something different at the 1 and 2 spots. Our guard play
is worse than last year, and last year wasn't very good.
Until this team develops their starting five into scorers, this is going to be a
long season. Especially, Carlino and Zylstra. They have loads of talent,
but don't understand mixing it up on offense.
There is enough games now to draw some conclusions. BYU is not ncaa
tournament bound, they just do not have the horses to compete
against decent teams.BYU will probably go to the NIT this year and
maybe play a couple of games but because they will have play on the road will
not last long.BYU must have real flaw is it's system in that
the front-line is often caught guarding out at the 3-point line, resulting in
foolish and unnecessary fouls to their big men.BYU seriously need
to recruit better and bigger interior players who can defensively control the
paint. BYU used always have several decent if not good 6-9 and taller players.
The system seems to be driving them away. harstock was only 6-8.BYU
hasn't developed a good big man in years, no ones potential is being
developed.Even the good ones like plaistead played small or never
developed like dawes.BYU plays too much man on man against decent
teams, which wears on BYU allowing the other team to go on runs during the later
part of the first half.BYU is not good enough to catch up.
Dave,Develop your teams personal offensive skills. Have
all bigs do 3 on 2 games where they have to catch and shoot from 10 to 15 foot
range. Austin is your next Hartsock. Needs to practice this and then shoot
more.Guards need midrange game like Haws does. They can play 21
with three or four players. They only shoot 10 to 15 foot pull up jumpers.
NO LAYUPS.Then have them do 3 on 2 drills. They can only take 20
foot or 3 pointer catch and shoots. No 3 pointers until they have hit a 20
footer. Then they have green light for a 3 pointer. If they miss, they have
to hit another midrange jumper before they take another 3 pointer. Never a 20
footer or longer off the dribble. Then replicate this in games. Carlino could be awesome. He can't take 3 pointers off the dribble like
first shot against Baylor. Develop his midrange game. A shot off the
dribble for a guard is 15 to 10 feet. Same is true for all guards on team.Develop the midrange talents. We need more Tyler Haws and Hartsock
types on the court in addition to Davies.
Here we go again Cougar fans. You have all the answers. You're going to
hammer on Coach Rose, and even go as far as tell him drills to run, Cal Cougar?
Really? You should be coaching somewhere, instead of coaching after the game is
over. It's easy to coach after. I can't believe the comments on
here. Stuff like BYU could be playing for the National Championship in football
had James Lark started. Well, you all got your wish, and Lark was pretty dang
average. Let the coaches coach, and just cheer for your team. They're
still pretty good, so just support and do something atypical of so many Cougar
Striker"BYU looks like they are just reloading this year and
should be a lot better next year with their amazing class coming in."I hate to be the bearer of bad news (ok maybe not) but byU will be worse
next year with Davies gone. That "amazing" recruiting class that
everyone keeps talking about (Mika, Emery and Haws), won't be playing until
at least 2015-16 season and Haws not until 2016-2017 season. Emery just got his
mission call to Germany and will leave in May. Good for him.
