I never imagined that the IRS could be bullied! Witness the amazing power of
I have an easy solution.Get rid of all charitable deductions and
religion would be free to say what it wants from the pulpit.
Money is power. Tax churches just like every other person.
Nothing will be done. And it's not the power of religion, but the power of
I think we should tax labor unions, churches that promote a certain political
party (Rev. Wright)and all political advocate groups including the LBGT.
The religion bashing is predictably naive. Doing away with charitable donations
is a very simplistic and hugely bad idea. The government does not want to take
over funding for Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, LDS Welfare Square, Salt
Lake Rescue Mission, Red Cross, Nature Conservancy, religious or secular
universities, etc. The IRS just needs to do its job.
@mounta(i)n man I was not aware that "LBGT" was and advocate
group. If you are talking about organizations like equality Utah donations to
them are already not tax exempt. I also cant help but notice you only seem to
think that those groups that do not agree with you should be taxed, interesting.
"The government does not want to take over funding for Catholic Charities,
Salvation Army, LDS Welfare Square, Salt Lake Rescue Mission, Red Cross, Nature
Conservancy, religious or secular universities, etc."And I would
bet that a very very small piece of religious tax deductions actually goes to
those causes.I have to believe that the vast majority goes to
purchasing and keeping up buildings, and paying utilities. Why should tax
deductions be given for prosthelytizing work in other countries?
casual observer, yes, under BO, they do!
@casual and lost So religious institutions should not have to follow the
laws and expecting them to do so is "naive religious bashing" because
they offer charity? I work for a non profit that provides charity can we just
ignore the law as well or does this only apply to religious institutions? Do you
think there might be a reason those laws exist other then just "religious
bashing?" Do you know why non profits including churches are not allowed to
do a significant amount of lobbying.
The IRS will NOT challenge political religious speech, simply because
the act passed by congress is unconstitutional,it violates free
speech, it violate religious freedom, and most importantly, the
Governmenet can not in any way proscibed what can be said at the pulpit.DO you really want the Governmet dictating what pastors, priests,
evangelists, etc, can say at the pulpit? Some people, the LEFT, do
not like freedom. But freedom means people can ans will do ans say
and do what you do not like.Get over it.IF you want
Government out of marriages and charities then that is the fight you should
have. But you can not tax speech, speech of any kind. And
charities and religions are allowed to speak out on any thing they wish. That is what freedom is.
George,What stretch of the imagination turns what I said into
"religious institutions don't have to obey the law"?But
since you are obviously confused, allow me to clarify - BO and his cabal DO want
to take over those private charities because then BO and his cabal would take
@lostlets see maybe through your convoluted conspiracy theory that obama
is using the law to take over charities maybe?
