Chuck can kick the tail out of superman.
So contraception is now murder, our country and freedom are under attack,
we’re at a tipping point, and our country as we know it may be lost
forever if we don’t change the course in which our country is headed?I'd give Norris the benefit of calling him as a pessimist if he
sounded a bit more rational.
The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
Fundamental principles of the 'separation of church and state' mandate
is to allow religious people to practice their religion without obstruction from
the government, as long as the practice of religion does not break the law.
Surely you can see how mandating people to do something that is against their
religion is an infringement on that basic rule of law. If a religion decides to
call contraception 'murder', how does the practice of that tenet
violate the law? It does not. The legal definition of murder can remain in
place without interference with religion. But in Obama's case, he wishes
to impose action on the part of Americans who, by religious definitions, are not
allowed to participate in such action. For example, I will not contribute to
the United Way, because they support things I find objectionable. That's my
freedom and right. If Obama requires me, by law, to contribute to the United
Way, he has crossed the line. That's not hard to follow, is it?
@Craig Clark"So contraception is now murder" The
contraceptive mandate not only includes contraception but also sterilization and
abortifacient drugs, commonly known as “The Morning After Pill”.Some religions have objections to contraception alone (forcing a
Catholic owned institutions to violate their conscience is like forcing the
Human Rights Campaign to pay for ex-gay therapy), but the bigger issue for many
people is post fertilization destruction. This alone would not be so concerning
to many people, however faux-choice zealots have already pushed for laws in many
states to eliminate the Conscience Clause that allows those who morally do not
want to participate in an abortion, either directly or indirectly, to opt out.
Eliminating such clauses requires those morally objecting to abortion to
never-the-less dispense drugs or engage in the action if they are a pharmacist,
doctor, etc. (or face disciplinary action or quit their jobs) regardless of
their CHOICE. Faux-choice zealots do not realize that choice, by
definition, must include the right to say no and that NO actually means NO.If you read non-partisan news, you would know this
Obama better watch out since "There used to be a street named Chuck Norris,
but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives!" :)
@Cici ManSo should we allow Rastafarians to smoke pot because their
religion believes it? If a business is owned by Jehovah's Witness's
should they mandate that non member employee's pay for any blood
transfusions they need, because the JW's don't believe in
transfusions. Or is it only when it is a mainstream christian religion that
doesn't agree with a law that we should make an exception?
"Surely you can see how mandating people to do something that is against
their religion is an infringement on that basic rule of law"Who
is mandating Anyone to do Anything? No one is forcing anyone to take
a contraception. No one is forcing anyone to have an abortion."For example, I will not contribute to the United Way, because they
support things I find objectionable. That's my freedom and right"And no one is forcing you to.Although, you may also find war
objectionable. You may find public school objectionable. You may find
building a Dam on a river objectionable.Good luck trying to keep
from contributing to those things. You are correct. It is not that
hard to follow
Noodlekaboodle: according to the logic of Cici, Restafarians would not be able
to smoke pot since that is breaking the law while saying believing that
contraception is murder does not break the law therefore should be allowed. I am
going to be slammed for this next part, and I don't know JW's doctrine
well enough to know, but if the owner would feel like he is breaking a law of
God by allowing that he should have a way to not directly participate on behalf
of his employees. Who are we to dictate what other people believe, or to condemn
them (even if according to our beliefs it is in their own minds)
You've never had to worry about the cost of your medical care, have ya,
If you want contraception reach in your wallet and pay for it and stop your
Chuck looks like he had one to many botox treatments. He should stay with the B
movies and out of poliitcs. He is way out of his league.
And people should care what Chuck Norris thinks-why?
Chuck Norris had a chance to "choke the life out of ObamaCare" by
supporting Mitt Romney. He didn't. He supported anyone and everyone but
"Mitt the Mormon". He lost his only real chance to do what he is NOW
proposing back in the GOP primaries. It was how much they attempted
to bloody Mitt Romney the first half of the year that prevented him from
prevailing against the anti-Colonial Communist, Barrack Hussein OBAMA in
November. None of Norris' martial arts will change anything now!
If I ever worked for an employer who is Jehovah's Witness it would most
certainly be with the understanding that I cannot expect the health insurance he
buys for me to cover blood transfusions or anything else he finds objectionable.
If I work for him, he gets to decide what kind of insurance I have if any. If I
do not like it, I can work for somebody else, or I can start a business that
competes against his.
Chuck is a true American. To bad, he wasn't on stage with Clint
Eastwood.Tired of people whining of things they don't have, and
how unfair working people are. In a free country, we all have a fair shot of
What about the freedom of employees working for non-profit, religious affiliated
hospitals? Do we believe in individual freedoms or freedom of religious
authorities to impose their belief systems on non-member? If Catholics
don't want to get contraception, they are free to do so. If employees wish
to get contraception through a Church's insurance company, they should be
allowed to do so. It's all about control. Religious institutions are in
many respect the enemy of individual freedom. Isn't it ironic that
religious authorities are complaining about a lack of freedom to control people.
I'm also agains Murder, but not so much the contraceptive kind as the war
kind. Can I be exempt from paying taxes on military spending due to religious
Chuck Norris is right. Unfortunately, there are many in this country without
the discernment to see it. The recent election is ample proof of that.
I'm not crazy about Obamacare, but I doubt Chuck Norris has a better plan.
Health care in America is a disaster, and the Republicans have done their best
to avoid tackling it in any meaningful way.
@ Kim --- citizen participation, voices, and discourse are a mark of our way of
government. I am glad the Chucky -- and you-- do participate.
Signed An Old Veteran
According to the CIA, 50 countries have lower infant mortality rates, as well as
longer life expectancies than the United States, according to publications by
the C.I.A. Most of the Western European Countries with socialized medical
programs rated superior than the United States.
Just what you would expect a wealthy over paid actor to say. I wonder how he
would deal with a world with no health insurance where upon becoming ill and
ending up in the hospital results in him now will have to sale the roof over his
head to pay the bill - even if the care was ineffective. I marvel how the well
healed have so little regard for those less fortunate in our community? I say
"Healthcare for all Americans - Thanks President Obama!!!!!!!
Well, the Chuck has spoken, anybody that dont agree will get a pivot kick to the
inner upper thigh area of the body and im sure old chuck will help with the er
I'm not a huge fan of ObamaCare, but if Republicans want to do away with
it, they would be smart to stick to arguments centered around economics and how
much better coverage will be. How many liberals are going to be swayed by all of
this talk of Ten Commandments and participating in murder, etc.?
"Obamacare" is a pathetic attempt at taking a bad situation and actually
making it better--something the Federal government almost never accomplishes.
We already have socialized medicine in the form of Medicare and Medicaid, and
they have been economic disasters in every way. Calling this the
"Affordable" care act is a huge joke, because it will make medical care
not only more expensive, but also much harder to actually obtain--particularly
for working people who pay taxes and earn their way. Chuck Norris made some
harsh statements regarding this absurdity--but all of his statements are
unfortunately UNDERSTATEMENTS. Wait until the other shoe falls and this monster
rears its ugly head; all the fantasy-land believers will also learn something
about reality along with the rest of us.
Why is it governments role to control health care? They can't even budget
our tax money.
When I got married,-health insurance cost thirty dollars a month, and a doctors
visit was ten bucks. When my oldest daughter was born, the total cost
of the hospital, and doctor was four hundred dollars, and my insurance paid for
it.What caused the prices to rise, and has people begging for
Does no one see the giant loophole that creates if we suddenly let businesses
opt out of covering things they find objectionable? I'm quite sure
employers everywhere would suddenly find any medical treatment that costs a lot
of money objectionable. Heck, I find the minimum wage objectionable, can I stop
paying it? I find it morally objectionable that I can't dump these
pollutants in a river, can I start doing it now.As to the whole law
thing, guess what, not paying for health insurance is now against the law. Just
like smoking weed. So there is no difference between Hobby Lobby and a business
owned by Rastas.
For goodness sakes, Chuck Norris has the right to speak out on this as much as
any other citizen of the United States of America. I applaud the fact that he
does and isn't whining like some on this comment page! Those who
oppose this law can speak out by contacting Governor Gary Herbert before
December 14th and telling him you want Utah to opt out of Obamacare. That is the
deadline the federal gov't has given us. Many states have already made the
decision to have no part of it. This is still an option for us in this state,
but only if lots of you people make the call. There are still too many unknowns
and hidden costs in this bill that will cost this state way too much money!
Herbert can't even get the feds to answer simple questions as to costs.
They don't want people to know how hideous this law really is until
it's too late. Let's opt out while we still have time!
I have NEVER taken advice from any actors, singers or celebrities and I will
take none from some actor who fakes action on a tv screen. According to Chuck
Norris, children with cancer should have their care cut off so health insurers
and their corporate death panels can make even more profit than they are.
Corporate profits are at an all time high and the rich declare themselves poor.
These are times when right is wrong and wrong is right and those with all the
money are twisting things to hide their sins of greed.
The principle of "separation of church and State" was originally
established to prevent the government from forming a mandated State run church,
which would also include preventing the establishment of State run health care,
insurance, or any other institution run by the government, State or Federal,
that would infringe on the people's God given rights to life, liberty and
the pursuit of happiness.
I can't believe Americans would sell their birthright for a mess of
contraception. Seriously. Contraception does NOT cost that much money. Buy it
yourself. If there is a will (if you know what I mean) there is a way to find
contraception. Don't ask for your church to be a part of that decision.
If you don't like it, don't work for the church or non-profit. THAT
is your freedom. NOT free contraception.
I agree with postings that don't put Norris in a favorable light, but he is
right that Obamacare is a disaster waiting for us to let it happen.
From the article: "Actor Chuck Norris, who is an outspoken proponent against
the Obama administration..."Sorry, hate to be "that
guy," but this is a terrible sentence. It's the equivalent of saying
"Chuck Norris who is an outspoken supporter against the Obama
administration..." A proponent is someone who advocates for a person, idea
or position. An opponent is someone who opposes a person, idea, or position.
Chuck Norris is an outspoken opponent of the Obama Administration.Administration should be capitalized as well. Was the copy editor out sick
Yeah, so now we listen to a B-rate movie actor for advice about ANYTHING?Obamacare might not be the cat's meow, but Chuck Norris?Movie scripts hard to come by these days?
A few misguided souls still think that health care will become more affordable
with the 'affordable' care act? Don't be so naive people. The
most this act attempts to do is give our federal government more control over
health care, and certain decisions that are involved, attempt to eliminate as
much fraud as possible, then force all of use to purchase health care, whether
we want to or not. There is nothing within those elements that will make it more
affordable for us, let alone free, which some people are counting on. Just as
you were told by those who originally opposed it, and by those who still oppose
it and were attempting to enlighten the masses about it during the campaign - it
will only become more expensive, and less efficient with the gov't
tentacles wrapped around it. Anything the gov't touches is guaranteed to
become more expensive. This is a foregone conclusion - cannot be disputed. We
will be happy to revisit this with you after four more years and see how
it's going. I'm confident that the 'tune' will be a
@JJJHS - And you believe that gov't officials don't also "twist
things to hide their sins of greed?" Indeed, many corporate execs have
proven just how corrupt they can be. But to believe that gov't officials
are immune from that is incredibly short-sighted. Can someone so full of answers
possibly be so naive? Guess the answer is obvious...
Improve Obamacare, don't scrap it.
Obamacare = Romneycare = Gingrichcare = Sutherland Institute IdeaIf
a Republican had rolled this out, you guys would be calling it mana from heaven.
How do I know? I was a Republican during the time Gingrich pushed this idea
INCLUDING the PERSONAL MANDATE. Because a Democrat passed it, now it is evil?
The reason why Romney and other Republicans could NOT come up with any ideas to
replace it would be due to President Obama passing a REPUBLICAN PLAN. President
Obama's original plan called for a single payer system, what passed is no
where close.Go ahead, repeal it, let children and people with severe
illness die due to the greed of corporations and their death panels. Then you
can stand before God when your day comes as I will to answer for your decisions.
Pride of having the money and trusting those who make it off unscrupulous
means. It truly shows what wicked times we live in when we are far too willing
to let the poor and the sick die while raising up the wealthy as if they are
Any political philosophy that opposes medical care for all it's citizens
but encourages massive funding for newer, better and greater weapons and a
larger war machine has no morals. Repubs: justify military spending over
healthcare. I dare you.
Only in the Deseret News would Chuck Norris Vs. ObamaCare get included in the
group of "Top News Stories" Kudos Deseret News! Thanks so much for
ignoring the Senate vote for U.N. Disabilities Rights. Nice to see that article
nowhere in your paper. But where is my mind? I am so insensitive to the poor
totured souls at Hobby Lobby.
"Let them eat cake." The Republican prescription for health care. For some, birth control is a matter of life and death. A dear friend of
mine has a clotting condition. Her last child nearly killed her. It was
imperative that she never become pregnant again. My own daughter was suspected
of having a hydatidiform molar pregnancy. Thankfully, further tests proved that
her child was fine. But for one in every thousand women who become pregnant,
this never-viable mass of tissue can kill them, if the pregnancy is not
terminated. Follow-up treatment may include chemotherapy and the prescription
to not become pregnant for at least a year. Physical intimacy is an
important part of marriage. It is a violation of a person's right to
"life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," to deny them their right
to use the health benefits that they have earned. The employer buys a policy.
It is up to the employee to decide how to use it.
Chuck Norris doesn't choke the life out of Obamacare. Obamacare chokes out
its own life when it sees Chuck Norris coming.
Maybe he is right that there is no middle ground. It's time to move to a
national health system like the rest of the Western world. Compromise isn't
accepted by some who would rather stay in a past that doesn't work and work
to tear the nation apart. Chuck has his, millions, but for those not so
fortunate, too bad so sad. He represents the worst of this country.
While its good to know that Chuck Norris's health care needs are taken care
of, this is not true of all Americans. Hense we now have Obama Care.
Mr. Obama campaigned in 2007 and 2008 on health care reform and won; people
knew it was coming on election day 2008. If people would read, they would see
that in 2010 or 2011, Mr. Obama said states can opt out of the Affordable Care
Act, as long as they provide all the citizens health care. I'm
confident states like Massachusetts will opt out of Obama care (and yes he does
care), because everyone there is already insured or paying a fine to not have
insurance. It is conservative to stop the free riders in health care,
everyone pays now.
Obamacare is socialized medicine and the mandate also includes massive tax hikes
that all American citizens will be subjected to. It is a massive socialistic
power grab that was rammed down our throats. Even Nancy Pelosi suggested we pass
it "immediately" so we can finally find out what is in the bill. Obama is a socialist, and wants this country to practice socialism.
Socialism if a failed system - look at Europe. All of you liberal
sheep need to wake up.
Our Founding Fathers chose to accept independence from a country that squashed
people's religious freedoms and financial independence. They fought
against their homeland type of environment whether English or another taxing
authority. We prepared and fought against Communism, Marxism,
Socialism, Nazi regimes and other types of despot types of governments under
Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Baines Johnson
and even in Haiti with Bill Clinton who led us into wars to end all wars.
Franklin D. Roosevelt brought us the League of Nations and he and President
Truman brought us the United Nations to have other governments as a whole tell
us as the United States of America that we are wrong and have been wrong
diplomatically and militarily for over 200 years. Now, we have our own
President apologizing to the world for all our indiscriminate actions over the 2
centuries due the rich wanting to take advantage of the poor. Those
other forms of government and their medical social programs have failed. Our
Wall Street is a pretty good system but greed of those people involved with
banks, real estate and loan programs took a toll on our citizens. Pride is
probably there, also.
Sorry Chuck but you are an actor, not a politician and not someone who has done
any research beyond their own views, (whether they be right or wrong). An actor says we need to abolish it and 75% of healthcare workers say
there has to be a change, sorry but I am going with the healthcare workers who
ulike actors face and deal with the system on a daily basis. We pay
more or a higher percentage of our GDP than any other developed nation in the
world and our healthcare system is not even close to the best.Boehner who is speaker of the house in washington after the election said
Obamacare is now law. Wouldn't it be much better to use your powers of
persuasion and "kicks to the head" to help change the system to
something that will work for the citizens of the country? Even Mr.
Romney said there are parts of Obamacare that he would have kept, yet you the
actor want to throw them all out.Based upon my powers of reasoning
you are you using very little reasoning. Perhaps as an actor you need headlines
more than you want to help.
A1994Centerville, UTSo it is not ok for the insurance to pay
for contraception? But it’s ok for grandpa to gets his Viagra paid
for by taxpayers via Medicare?
Tom in CAVallejo, CAIf obamacare is socialized medicine, what
is Medicare? Are you for doing away with Medicare and Medicaid also?
I reiterate.....why would Deseret News care one iota what a washed up actor
thinks. What credentials does he have? He can afford whatever Cadillac health
plan is available.
Some Clueless, clueless people are commenting on this Chuck Norris story.First, this is Not about whether contraception or smoking pot is right or
wrong or legal or not. It is about the Government promoting communistic ideas
like forcing people (business owners) to provide, and pay for services of other
people's poor moral choices.Second, "I haven't seen the
republicans come up with anything better"....Why are we waiting for or
depending on the government to take care of our health care? This is also known
as Socialism.Mitt Romney is apparently right when he said that 40% of
Americans depend on Government to take care of them.I have an idea! How
about each of us individually, take care of our own health care coverage, and
keep government out of it.
SoCalUte,I am in favor of individuals taking care of their own
health care except there is one small problem. What do we do with those who
don't take care of their own health care and find themselves in a situation
where they or one of their children who needs a major surgery or has a serious
accident then what? Do we deny them care if they can't pay? That is the
only way to make people responsible. Being responsible is great if
there is a consequence for irresponsibility. What we currently have is not
working, and there is no consequence for lack of responsibility. I would rather
have Obamcare which will require everyone to pay something, as opposed to what
we have now which is those who have insurance pay the full bill for those who
aren't responsible and don't have coverage.
To "Fred44" you want to know what you do for somebody who doesn't
want to take care of themselves?! That is simple. You don't take care of
them.Think about that person you knew in Highschool or College who
was always dating somebody who was totally wrong for them or was leading them
down a bad path. All you can do is warn them of the consequences of their
choices, then be there to support them once they hit rock bottom and decide to
climb their way out.The same with healthcare. If somebody
doesn't want insurance, warn them, and once they finally get to a point
where their health problems give them grief, you support them and help them get
insurance and help them figure out a way to pay for their own care.If you do that, they will learn the value of health insurance. If you go with
the liberal mentality, you will end up with a healthcare system that
American business has no choice with Obamacare - it is law. America has chosen
socialism on Nov 6th and that sad choice will make us Greece in less than 5
years. Elections have consequences...remember that when you see your insurance
premiums sky rocketing over the next 4 years.... and medical care declining....
but you can feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing you are being "fair".
Chuck norris can choke the life out of obama care by himself. Why is he calling
for help now? If his tears can cure caners, it's about time he started
crying about all of this.TL;DR: Chuck doesn't need help.
Any large corporation has a responsibility to provide conventional medical care
options as required by law. Contraception and sterilization are part of that.
Fact of life. Twenty-first century modern society and all that. If the feds
required women to use contraception or be sterilized, I can see their point!
Otherwise, it is they who are imposing their beliefs/values on others (employees
who have no choice but to take Hobby Lobby's subpar insurance). Sorry
kids! Moreover, if you are anti-abortion then take up the flag of contraception!
Access to contraception has been proven over and over again to decrease the
abortion rate. Put your efforts into something that actually makes a difference,
Chuck! Less access to contraception = more abortions. Oh! And the
morning after pill is NOT an abortifacient. Anyone who says otherwise is not
a:1)doctor2)scientist3)objective reader of science
literatureThese pills:1)thicken cervical mucus and thus
prevent sperm motility2)delay ovulationThere is NO (none, nada,
zero, zilch) evidence that they:1) prevent a fertilized egg from
implanting in the uterus.Hooray no abortion! Please join me singing
the praises of contraceptives of all types as they will finally vanquish
elective abortions forever!
Obamacare has an opt-out provision, able to be used by any state that comes up
with their own system that covers at least as many at no more expensive a cost.
So far only Vermont has gone that route. Looks like conservative states really
can't do better, otherwise they could be opting out right now.
Well Chuck, Sorry you're unhappy about Obamacare, but we just had an
election and it seems the body politic doesn't see things the same way you
ObamaCare = Death Panels.
Bless the DN for giving an exercise hawking infomercial actor a public forum.
Chuck Norris, seriously? It amazes me that actores like him and William
Baldwin get a forum for thier partisan rants. Where was he when the Republicnas
and Bush were cramming their unfunded Medicare prescription entitlement down our
throasts so they could win Florida and another 8 years? Hypocrites!!
