Good decision. Keep religious references out of legal decisions. What an old
book written by goat herders says is irrelevant to today's legal issues.
Judge Bill Graves should be reprimanded, as well.
Names aren't assigned a gender. Does the judge think it is illegal to name
a girl Taylor, for example? Who gets to decide if a name is only appropriate
for a female or a male. Sounds like a lot of governmental intrusion to me. Of
course his decision was overturned.
I agree that perhaps the applicant's mind was somewhere else other than his
It seems that some would like those that are religious to leave there religion
at the door. However, as Elder Holland said recently, "You never leave your
religion at the door." Whether or not you agree with the judge or not I
have more respect for him for not leaving his religion at the door than someone

The judge should certainly be reprimanded for bringing his personal religious
views into a proceedings where he is acting as a representative of the
government. His personal religious views should have no bearing whatsoever on
his judicial decisions. To act otherwise is in direct contradiction to his oath
to uphold the Constitution.
Al Quaeda refuses to leave their religion at the door. Hezbollah refuses to
leave their religion at the door. The Muslim Brotherhood refuses to leave
religion at the door. Fundamentalist Christian radicals and Dominionists refuse
to leave their religion at the door. When believers are ready to
acknowledge that there are others on the planet who matter as much (or more)
than themselves and their ambitions for world domination under their god, then
and only then will peace on earth be even remotely possible.Until
then, the stubborn refusal to check your religion at the doors of Congress, the
Judiciary, the White House, and other sanctuaries is simply a not so subtle
declaration of continued war, bloodshed, and strife.
