Media are contentious because we want media to be...contentious. It reflects our
society. I hope it affects children. I hope they're repulsed by it.
It's interesting that your son feared that Democrats would be the most
unstable if they lost. Reality is proving that Republicans are taking it even
harder than Dems did in 2000 and 2004. I never saw any attempts to dissolve the
Union after those elections. And the real fears of immediate Armageddon coming
from the right are sad to see. Your poor son must be traumatized hearing all
of this. I thought the video of the little girl crying about "Bronco Bamma
and Mitt Romney" was cute, but also very sad because I think she was
actually frightened by the caustic tone she heard in all of the ads. It is
frightening for children to hear their elders so angry and fearful.
Too true. I would love for the media to act as teachers rather than react to the
contention. I will say--and it may be my political opinions which sway me this
way--I felt that Romney's campaign was much more contentious than the Obama
campaign. Perhaps I had higher expectations given Romney's faith.
