Even though the U is having a down year it is still great to be talking about a
conference champ and a chance at the Rose Bowl every year instead of the
independent wasteland BYU finds itself in. The Y could win out and still end up
the in the Armed Forces Bowl. I suspect the Y would probably get a better bowl
had they won out but BCS?? I doubt it.
Last year after the team turned things around the only thing that could stop us
was our own kicker! Although Cal is not a top 10 team or anything like that,
they did give Stanford all they could handle and are a decent team. We
outplayed them in every facet, every quarter of that game.If we feed
White the ball and maintain the intensity I can see us winning out and finishing
8-5 with an impressive bowl win against a great team. Worse case scenaior is
7-6, but I like our chances of not losing again this year. Washington is
terribly inconsistent and Arizona got exposed by Oregon. Even though its
Oregon, you don't lose by 50 to Oregon if you are a decent team.
I love how these Ute fans get on here and quickly defend their team's
horrible record. Face the facts, the Utes suck this year! Granted, injuries to
key players have played a slight role, but your team has no depth and an
inexperienced offensive coordinator. Lifelong ute needs to wake up, there is no
way you win out. UW in Seattle is a loss, Arizona has been playing pretty good,
see last weeks upset of USC and I would be surprised if you don't split
between WSU and Colorado. One beat you last year and the other it took a miracle
comeback to pull out the win
Provo4Life,Like you, I don't see the Utes winning out. Of
course, I HOPE they do, but I believe it's unlikely. However, I think
it's unlikely that they will only win one more game this season. But I've got to tell you, the most humorous yet sad thing in the comments
above has got to be your screen name. I got my diploma from "the BYU"
and left Provo ASAP. I was just there last week (for the first time in about
twenty years), and I can tell you that I'm glad I don't quality to
call myself "Provo4Life."I recommend that you perseverate
less about your rival, and get out and see the world!
PAC 12 pillow fight of the "weak", but it's good to hear that
Whittingham's 3-5 Utes aren't overlooking Leach's 2-6 Cougars.
patriotMore clueless comments.BYU is already headed to
San Diego and the Poinsettia Bowl, which, if I'm not mistaken, the Utes
were only too pleased to be playing in only a couple of years ago.In
2013, barring an unlikely BCS bowl season, BYU will be playing in San Francisco
and the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, also a bowl Utah fans were happy to be playing
in only a few years ago. And, unlike the armpit of America where Utah
played last season, both great fun and easy-to-get-to locations for a large
majority of BYU fans. And certainly alot more exciting than playing
your "bowl" game in September.
All I'll say is that I wish my Cougs had a coach with the passion &
leadership of Coach Whit! To say I dislike the Utties is putting it mildly(or
perhaps my dislike is largly with their fans!), but I've got the utmost
respect for your coach. He seems to accept personal responsibility more often,
understands the relationship of dealing with the media (including more
nat'l media) and seems engaged over the entire team instead of focusing on
one element of the team.
Hey Eddie, notice the sarcasm. Born and raised in Washington and I am a Huskie
fan, so don't go jumping to conclusions. The only rivalry the Utes have now
is the one with Colorado as it loks like that will be a battle of the Rcoky
Mountains for years to come as well as supremacy at the bottom of the
Coach Whit isn't surprised to find the Utes in last place, without any
possibility of going to the Rose Bowl, since he knows his stuff. What is
surprising (but not really) is that patriot and Chris B. think the Utes are the
greatest thing since sliced bread. Too funny......And rather than
assessing the Ute program, again they prove their fixation with BYU by
continuing to bash them at every opportunity. Too funny.........The
Utes will not go to a bowl game this year unless they buy spectator tickets and
sit in the stands. Too funny........I predicted it would take the
Utes 3 years to garner 10 PAC 12 Conference victories. Unless something happens
differently real soon, it appears I was being too optomistic. Too funny......
The PAC 12 has had a great year so far. There non-conference record speaks for
itself. I expect the PAC 12 teams to do quite well come bowl season, and I think
Oregon is the best team in the country. Nice to see all the haters, as usual,
taking shots at Utah's program. Always a classy move.
I'm the biggest Utah fan out here but some of you stating 8-5 are nuts.
Whittingham did not have our team ready as he does not have the right coaches in
place in all positions and this team certainly is not disciplined. Blechen acts
like he still has the munchies and all is not right on the Hill. I believe we
will make it to a bowl game but we have to win all our home games and one road
game for it to happen. Arizona will be very tough and Washington will be
fighting for their own bowl lives. Colorado could (well it happened before)
whatever...8-5 is completely ridiculous. Just get to a bowl.
toosmartforhimself claims "Coach Whit isn't surprised to find the Utes
in last place"Actually, Coach Whit knows that Washington State is in
last place.I wish the Pac12 would boot Colorado back to the Big12
and take in BYU. That would upset Cougar fans, though, since this year
they'd be in second-to-last place in the standings.
It seems Utah is in last place in the Southern Division. And if Washington
State wins on saturday, then Utah will be in last place in the conference. But
stranger things have happened, like Ute fans wishing Colorado wasn't in the
PAC 12. I suppose it's tough to swallow when your new rival, with the
worst road record in America, comes into your place when all the marbles are on
the line and you have one of the best OC's in the country (Norm Chow) and
you get whipped. And then they all want to dump Colorado. Well, there's
"rumbling in the Rockies" all right and you can expect more of it in
Boulder this year. What a natural rivalry----the two newest members of the PAC
12 who are on the bottom----Utah and Colorado. As for BYU competing
in the PAC 12, you might want to talk to Washington, Oregon and Oregon State
(Vegas Bowls) and see how they have fared against the Cougars.
It is going to be a long off season for the Utes. At least they have basketball
to look forward to.Oh wait...
I'm not surprised by utah's pac12 outcomes either coach.
toosmart,It's probably a tough pill to swallow when a
"storied" program can't beat a PAC 10.2 doormat. Trashing the Utes
when they own your team is really not toosmart. Your handle is the best
oxymoron on these boards... too funny.
They better not overlook WSU. Just because they haven't won a game yet
doesn't mean they aren't capable. Some of those losses were very
competitive. It isn't like they were getting blown out every time. They
will have their break through and you know that WSU thinks that breakthrough can
be against Utah. A team that takes ANY team lightly is setting themselves up for
a loss. Look what happened to Utah when "awful" Colorado came to town.
There was NO WAY Utah could lose that game. Well, Colorado played their best
game of the year and simply wanted it more than the flat footed Utes. Indeed,
anything can happen out there. This is what makes it fun.
U 90You're overlooking the fact that Utah couldn't beat
the only WAC team they played, while BYU, as usual, is undefeated against the
conference our friends on the hill so frequently disparage.BYU has
had some disappointments this season, but BYU is also only 7 points and 3 plays
away from winning all 3 of the road games they lost, including 2 Top 25 teams,
and a team that is now a serious contender to play for the national
championship.btw, your "big boy conference" program,
couldn't beat the real PAC 10.2 doormat last year and after a season and a
half, still hasn't beaten a PAC team with a winning record.
Reading some of these comments you would think that BYU had beaten Utah
LonestarRunner:"...if I'm not mistaken, the Utes were only
too pleased to be playing in [the Poinsettia Bowl] only a couple of years
ago."No, you're not mistaken, but the Poinsettia Bowl a
couple of years ago was a better bowl than it is now. Back THEN it was an AQ
vs. non-AQ showdown. Now, it's yawner between two mid-majors. This game
had lost its shine. You'll find out soon enough that "your
'bowl' game in September" will have proven to have been a more
exciting game than the one you'll be invited next month.
toosmartforyou:"As for BYU competing in the PAC 12, you might
want to talk to Washington, Oregon and Oregon State (Vegas Bowls) and see how
they have fared against the Cougars."They said you've only
beaten them a grand total of 12 times in the entire history of cougar football.
And idea how well the Y had done vs. Utah?
Toosmartforyou said:As for BYU competing in the PAC 12, you might
want to talk to Washington, Oregon and Oregon State (Vegas Bowls) and see how
they have fared against the Cougars.---------Why did you leave Utah
off the list. Not very smart of you.LO
Snack WAC:"...your 'big boy conference'
program...after a season and a half, still hasn't beaten a PAC team with a
winning record."In the last THREE yrs, your Indy-WAC program
hadn't beaten Utah! Haha!
@ Snack PackWho won between BYU and Utah the last three years?
Don't spin it, don't reference some obscure biased stastics. Enjoy
playing second fiddle. You can't beat us on the field, and that's what
matters most.SCORE BOARD!All the rest of your talk is
Naval VetIt's not the bowl, but the teams involved that makes a
bowl game significant and exciting.Anybody who argues differently is
simply blowing smoke.Get over your "mid-major" snobbery.Wisconsin versus mid-major TCU in the Rose Bowl was a much better game
than many PAC versus Big Ten games. Mid-major TCU versus mid-major
Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl was MUCH more significant and exciting than
"major" Utah versus "major" Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl.Playing in the Poinsettia Bowl will be much more exciting than playing
in the Couch Potato Bowl.
Snack,The minute you and other Y fans say stuff like BYU is 7 plays
away from an undefeated season you lose credibility instantly. Keep in mind BYU
is also 1 play away from being 4-5. Your team is just not that good.
Spokane UteHead-to-head matchups bring bragging rights, but they
don't prove which is the better team.BYU beat Utah State which
beat Utah, all in close games#22 BYU(5-4) and #24 Utah St(7-2) both
have better records and are ranked higher than #44 Utah(3-5)So which
is the best team in the state?Still to be determined, but it's
not looking good for the Utes.SCOREBOARD determines one game.SEASON determines which team is better.(see Colorado versus Utah
U 90Nobody said BYU is 7 plays away from an undefeated season, but
Utah is 1 play away from being 2-6 and on the brink of bowl elimination. What's interesting is the team Utah fans are constantly trying to
minimize, is the only decent team you've beaten this season.
"Utah Utes football notebook: Pac-12 outcomes not surprising to
Whittingham"Of course not.Whittingham got used to
losing to teams like Colorado by losing to teams like UNLV, New Mexico, Wyoming,
and Colorado State.
PhantombladeThe best team is who wins, head to head, on the field.
That's pretty obvious, but keep spinning it if it makes you feel better.
Nice try in referencing Colorado though. Especially seeing that they did what
BYU can't; beat Utah. Score Board Guy!
Uteanymous,You haven't been on these Ute boards enough.
Several of your Cougar cronies have come on to Ute articles and said BYU is X
number of plays away from a perfect season and a #5, 6, 7 or 8 ranking. Your
friend Snack is traveling down a similar path in his post. I already
know Utah isn't good this year. However, way too many BYU fans are still
under the delusion that the Y actually has a good team.... face it, you
don't. BYU is just as bad as Utah (if not worse), otherwise how do you
explain losing to the lowly Utes 3 years straight?
Spokane UteYou really expect us to believe that the kids on the hill
think that Colorado had a better team than Utah last year? The
twisted "logic" Utah fans use to support an arguement that they
don't even believe themselves is hilarious.10-loss UNLV and
10-loss Colorado were BETTER than Utah's Poinsettia and Sun Bowl winning
U 90"BYU is just as bad as Utah (if not worse), otherwise how do
you explain losing to the lowly Utes 3 years straight?"Simple. What happened last year or the year before is meaningless
as far as evaluating this year's teams.Anybody who objectively
watched BYU's game at #3-ranked Notre Dame could clearly see that BYU is a
much better team than their 5-4 record indicates.BYU's offense
may not be stellar, but BYU's defense is one of the best in the country as
evidenced by the way they completely shut down Georgia Tech, which has one of
the nation's best offenses.
All you byu fans, Utah article, WOW is your team really that great to have
anything to say about Utah. BYU fans you have and you always will just blow me
away. You are all experts in the college football world and in a month it will
be the same for basketball.
UteaymousJust have fun byu is a good team, One question though is
Utah State your chest pounding victory? You guys get on here and talk like you
are blowing everyone away, dude you haven't and the last thing I want you
to remember is BYU CANNOT BEAT UTAH-can't wait for your comeback.
