Thought the Cougars might pull it out down 4 points with a few minutes to go.
Please give Lark a shot. I am not saying he is the answer, but even with
Reilly's having a decent game he still had three picks. In addition, did
you see some of the almost turnovers? Those type of bonehead plays some might
call playing with guts, but others think its just stupid. These plays continue
to happen game after game. The year is a wash already.Lark has deserved this shot. Maybe Doman doesn't remember how he got his
How many loses do you have to witness before you finally start looking at the
reason for the losses, Mendenhall and his skateboarder QB, until those 2 things
change look for the losses to keep piling up, you know the definition of
insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results,
ok, lets hear the excuses.
Fans will blame Nelson for this loss, but the game really was lost before those
last 2 interceptions. I think you have to put this loss on the defense.
BYU's pass defense, especially against the long ball, was severely exposed.
Vaz (OSU's qb) is an unbelievable passer. He is the kind of passer that BYU
used to have.I think the play calling was better. Note to Doman: the
play action WORKS. We need to use that a little more to get the pass downfield.
Shovel pass also very effective. Nelson, although not awful, still makes poor
decisions on occasion. The turnovers could have been worse. Bottom
line--OSU is a better team. To beat them we have to be at least even on the
turnovers and we can't have stupid major penalties. We were far from
accomplishing either. If we can take care of those 2 things we may have won this
game, despite our poor play from the defense.
Coaches should start thinking about using practice sessions to develop a passing
game. Worked for OSU.
Three reasons we lost: 1) no pass rush; 2) atrocious pass interference penalty
on 2nd & 16. Players have got to be smarter than that; 3) in spite of the
good things Riley did, you can always count of 2 to 3 major mistakes. This game
was no exception.
I think the Cougars can hold their heads high after today's loss. OSU is
for real and BYU gave them a real fight. The offense finally showed some fight
and the defense played better than the stats and final score indicate. No
amazing bowl this year but the teams is making progress.
Idablu:With all due respect, I disagree. The Defense played well
enough to give BYU the win against a very good & fast OSU offense. In my opinion the problem is squarely on Riley Nelson and the 3 pics and
terrible throws all day. He missed to many screen passes to count and under
threw his receivers to many times. He had 23 missed passes. If he cleans that up
by 10 even catchable passes BYU has a very good chance to win.He
made a terrible decision to force the interception in the first half rather than
throwing it away which likely cost BYU a score. The pic six was totally on Riley
Nelson as it was a short pass and that it was bobbled is moot. More catchable
pass = no interception.Fun 3 1/2 quarters to watch and I lived the
uniforms, especially Ziggy's with trashed shoulders.
Oh well, Cougars did OK for 3 quarters and then blew it in the fourth. Was glad
to see some variety in the play calling.Defense allowing the deep
balls was unexpected and cost a lot of yards.Got to hand it to OSU
and their new QB. For his first game he did well. It will be interesting to see
how they do against the Utes next week.Hope the Cougars do better
next week. Can't afford to fall apart like this at the end.
Blame it on Max Hall. Black out?
sammyg, Springville, UT said"If there is one thing that can be learned
from this beat down it is this...4 - 5 star recruits > 2-3 star
recruits."For once, I agree with you sammyg
Good bye Doman. Not so nice knowing you. Lark!!
BYUfaninWashStThey won't go with a passing game because Coach
Doman is an option guy. That's what he did in high school and what he did
in college. He does't understand the vertical passing game. Plus, while
Riley Nelson plays with heart, he's reckless and has a poor arm. The
offensive line can't block either. Oregon State's offensive line was
superior and so was their defensive line. The game starts in the trenches.
It's a typical Coach Mendenhall team. Beat the lousy teams, competitive
with the mid-level teams, lose to the good teams. BYU continues to waste good
receiving talent. It's clear Nelson doesn't see the field well
because most of his targets go to Hoffman. Hoffman is a terrific receiver and
has earned the targets but spreading it around would make a big difference.
Hopefully the team can get to six wins and at least qualify for a post season
We were the underlings both BYU and Utah. I watched the Y game. We were out
quarterbacked and out coached. OSU looked like a better team for four quarters
as the Y continued to play catch up.We ran aground in the fourth quarter.
Are you kidding me! Hard to beat 11 Ducks and 8 more refs. Must be Pac 11 refs.
Andy Reid has an agent. Let's hope Tom Holmoe is now planting a seed
with that agent that could sprout at the end of the season should Coach Reid
want a fresh start away from the NFL pressure cooker. The current
experiment of hiring inexperienced, unqualified coaches has run its course. Things will continue to go downhill from here as additional frustrated players
transfer to other schools and recruits cross the Y off their lists.
3 int's. common let's get a qb in there... there is a real possibility
this team may not be bowl elgible.
Game plan was better from Doman today. Still way too many "option plays"
again. This isn't Skyline High Brandon. Poor throws from Nelson led to
points for OSU. For the first time this season, we see the defense give up
several big plays on the ground and through the air. Not too many bad penalties
SoonerUteAnd I didn't think you cared. This 'stars'
chestbeating stuff is a Ute thing every year. I just like reminding you
Utesies. So your feeble attempt to throw the 'star ratings'
as a dig against BYU is pretty weak today.BYU held their own until
the 4th quarter even with the challenges Riley brings with him as QB.BYU put real offensive points on the board today against a #10 team and your
Utes??? 7 lousy points.I'm pretty confident that OSU will
administer the Utes fourth in a row PAC12 beat down next week.
55 minutes the Cougars played competitively with the #10 team in the nation.
Yes, it was just 'oregon state' but that team is ranked #10 for a
reason. You fans calling for coaches heads after a loss to a team that will
probably be taking a jump to #7 need to reevaluate your line of thinking. The
only loss this season to date or forthcoming within the next 7 days of
despicable nature was Utah. Losers of 4 straight and after suffering the same
fate in Corvalis will have lost 5 straight. Yes, perhaps a better qb or coach
might be an answer, but not considering the stellar defensive play until the
pick 6 which put it out of reach after failing to tie it up at 28. Take this
loss like men and quit your grade school whining!
sammygSpringville, UTSoonerUteI'm pretty confident
that OSU will administer the Utes fourth in a row PAC12 beat down next week.____________I'm pretty confident you will find every
excuse in the book to use as BYU loses games.
BYU got out coached, plain and simple. OSU's offensive coordinator did a
better job than Bronco.Nelson again proved he is not a D-1 QB. He
simply can't beat the good teams. I bet Apo is getting tired of trying to
scoop his low passes off the turf. If you can't complete a simple wing
pass you do not have a D-1 arm.The problem that BYU has is there are
very, very few college football coaches with a temple recommend. I'm not
sure who they would replace Bronco with.
I liked the black uniforms
I'm afraid when it's all said and done OSU goes 4-5 in the PAC-12.
The Beavers are better but still not a PAC-12 elite. I think BYU is the largest
margin of victory for the Beavers which doesn't say much for BYU since the
Cougs played at home. The Utes and the Cougs continue to disappoint. Their
OC's don't seem ready for the prime time. Their defenses are solid
but not as great as advertised. Bottom line the Cougs gave up 35 points with
their defense (offense gave up 7). This is the first really good offense BYU
played, and they were even minus their QB, and in the end the Cougs didn't
deliver. The front seven is good but the DB's look like they do most
years, a bit slow against elite talent.
Losing by 18 is not a "real fight". For the life of me I don't
know how anyone can be impressed with any facet of the BYU program. No running
game, no passing game, corners have speed but don't know how to cover. etc.
etc. There's always next year.
WacPaddledMyUtesI bear no excuses for BYU's loss to OSU. OSU
played and they won the game. BYU lost... big deal. I can't
wait to see what OSU will do to the Utes this coming weekend.Lots of
dead silence and long drawn faces on the kids and fans from the trailer park on
'the hill' that was expecting Star, John, and Jordan to carry them to
I didn't get to go to the game as I was in Las Vegas for a wedding,
fortunately it was on ABC so I got to watch it. I was disappointed with the
result of course but OSU is a top 10 team. Mistakes are BYU's downfall in
each of their losses, this one was no exception. I hate to say it but truly good
teams do not make those sorts of mistakes. I guess we'll just have to wait
for next Saturday and hope they can play at South Bend without making those
Too funny, Sammy G is worried about what Oregon St is going to do to Utah. Mean
while, BYU is going to get absolutely throttled by Notre Dame. May want to worry
about your own team, if you actually even support a team.
Poor Jealous Spokane UteI'm not worried about anything at BYU.
BYU will either win or they will lose, nothing I say or do will change that. Go Cougars! Does that change your opinion of me? Didn't
think so, nor do I care.Your team is really bad, and seeing you
cuddle up to BYU fans by saying how BOTH teams are bad is really quite amusing.
Nothing could be further from the truth.Let's get this
straight. Your team is really sucking wind right now and appears to have given
up. It appears many of the Ute fans have by the scarcity of comments, both
positive Ute ones and negative ones on BYU stories. That's quite
touching.BYU still has some fire left in them along with some
offense and good defense, they put points up against OSU, something that will be
as rare as snow in Las Vegas when the Utes play them next week. Utes
are a train wreck, maybe that's why it's so interesting to watch.
@ Sammy G,Of Course not; you comments pretty much I.D. who you are.
As far as my team "sucking wind right now", both Utah and BYU are;
don't kid your self. I guess the saving grace is we BEAT BYU on the field.
Check Mate; but keep spinning it.
Spokane Ute, You noticed that too. Interesting, very similar posts and
styles and getting that way more and more as the season wears on.
