I applaud Utah State for its improvements, but BYU's defense is
suffocating. As long as BYU can score on USU's solid defense, BYU comes
out on top. In the end, Taysom Hill, Jamaal Williams, and Cody Hoffman will be
too much to handle.BYU 27 USU 8
The Jimmer,Hill struggles to get the ball to Hoffman, and rarely
drops back to pass. Jamaal Williams is untested going up against a
depleted Hawaii team that was bad to begin with.Hill is also untested. And
so is BYUs "suffocating D". That doesn't mean they won't do
well, it simply means that they have not seen an offense similar to USUs or a
Defense thats as quick to the ball as USUs.
If USU continues to do what they've done all season they will lose. They
barely beat Utah in Logan after an offensive pass interference call against the
Utes in overtime and they missed a field goal at Wisconsin. They have a history
the last two years of not playing 60 minutes but folding after about 58
minutes. It should be a great game, but they said that about Utah-ASU
and Utah-USC, too. So we'll see.
@ toosmart,If USU does what it has done all season we'll win,
because that is what we've done all season. We still BEAT Utah. And we lost
on a missed FG that was a more difficult kick then the one BYU missed multiple
USU destroyed the y 2 years ago and lost a close game last year. The Aggie D is playing amazing disciplined defense. Count on USU to bring
their A Game.Go Big Blue!!!
USU will choke and find a way to lose. Just like they almost always do against
BYU. Thats the way it is and if you aggies don't like it you need to learn
to deal with it.
1978 was the last time USU won in Provo. That's long enough ago that most
of the USU fans and virtually all of their studentbody weren't born yet.
But hope springs eternal, especially after they beat Utah this year in Logan
(requiring OT and a call to go USU's way) and barely lost on the road to a
weak Wisconsin team. Be careful on the drive home, Aggies, as last
week after the Hawaii game UDOT closed I-15 down to one lane in Davis County
after 10 pm. Smart, those UDOT folks, with the way they schedule work.
VAggie,BYU attempted a FG of 51 yards that was blocked. Due to Utah
storming the field it was moved 15 yards closer. The kicker then proceeded to
clank the attempt off the upright from 36 yards. A make would have been OT. USU's kicker missed a 37-yard field goal that would have won them
the game. With those facts please explain your comment that "We
lost on a missed FG that was a more difficult kick then the one BYU missed
multiple times".Really? Since when is a 37 yard FG more
difficult than a 51 yard FG? The difficulty between a 36 or 37 yard FG is
negligible. You are grasping as straws. BYU wins tongith but I
expect it will be close.
USU deserves more respect than most instate fans will give them and I expect a
close game tonight. Defense and special teams will be key and must make plays
that really count. I'm sure USU will have plenty of local fans in the
stands and I don't see it as being like a typical away game. One thing they don't have is a knowledge of who our QB will be. Who did
they prepare for? I'd like to see us mix it up a little with Taysom, Lark
AND Riley (if he's healthy). One last thought.. please Bronco,
please, no two point conversions.
@VAGGIEBYU's Defense is ranked higher than Utah States' defense
so yes I believe the adjective "Suffocating" is appropriate. Utah State
is a great team this year and it will require BYU's best effort to beat
them. If Hill can throw accurate passes, then the talented BYU Receiving Corp
will beat the Aggies. I do think that Hill will throw an interception but
Hoffman, Apo, Friel, and Falslev will prove to be too much for the Aggie
Jimmer:BYU's D is as highly rated as it is because they
haven't played anybody but Boise State, who's not particularly
impressive by any means. I'm including in that list of nobodys Utah, and
I'm a Ute fan. They won't be suffocating ANY of the top opponents
they'll be facing in the coming weeks, including tonight's bout with
USU. In fact, they're gonna get run right over by two of those opponents.
They'll be typically tough (for an average college football team) tonight,
but USU's going to show that they're not as good as their ranking,
which is actually precisely reflective of their schedule.Going to be
a fun game to watch!Go Ags!
If BYU doesn't get their offense going USU wins unless BYU gets a couple
V aggie,Having usu beat BYU will prove that they have the best football
team in Utah. If they ever crack the list of top 100 universities in the US,
which is far less likely than beating BYU in football, it won't be because
they won the Uath Boot.
@toosmartforyouYou usually are smart in most of your political
posts. However, saying that because USU hasn't won in Provo since 1978 is
why they won't win tonight is kind of weak. They really should have won
last year but they were still pretty young. This year they seem to have figured
out that football games go for 4 quarters and not 3. As far as the
BYU defense, I am interested to see just how good they are. Any logical
thinking BYU fan has to admit that they haven't played a decent offense
yet. USU has a good offense. Go Aggies!
Usu > Utah > ucmt > byu > Weber State > suu
@Hemlock" If they ever crack the list of top 100 universities in
the US..."I'm sorry, but what does that have to do with
Congratulations USU on your win against the 3rd best team in the stateUSU 24byu 14Mark it Down
@ V AggieWell, USU did what they've always done the past two
seasons---miss a field goal and play less than 60 minutes (actually only 30
seconds less, not 2 minutes as I posted earlier) and they indeed lost. My
comment was vindicated; yours was not.@ Chris BThanks
for predicting USU would win. Your stellar record remains in tact. Who is Utah
going to beat next week and by how much? LOL!!!!!
