Elimination, or at least strict control, of predators and other dangerous
organisms is common sense and necessary for the human population, as well as
many other species, especially game animals.Eradicating smallpox and
polio were major positive accomplishments by mankind. Control of the predatory
wolf population was another. The cute little furry critter in the
photo for this story is a vicious killing machine which can and will kill
cattle, pets, and people if given the chance.Ranchers have the right
ideas on wolves, not the environmentalists.
Growing up on a Ranch, I was taught that there must be balance in nature. Things
that many people think are bad such as wildfires and wolves do have their place
and humans should take their place in nature without needing total domination
and eradication of everything wild. People also need to balance their population
and location. Not all ranchers are against wolves and we run both cows and
sheep. There just needs to be some moderation. If wolves are
reintroduced near our ranch then we would expect to have the ability to protect
livestock (thin the wolf population by removal or killing) and some form of
low-cost catastrophic insurance in the case of large losses. It is
depressing for me to consider a future with no more wild things or wild places.
@DN subscriberright because clearly your God had no idea what they
where doing when he created predators to keep balance in nature. "game animals?" really? so your need to hunt outweighs the need to
maintain a natural balance? you do realize humans are predators as well right?
shall we start eradicating that disease as well?
It is always disappointing to read comments that show such a lack of
understanding about the science behind ecology and the actual environment that
exsists in about 99% of this world. There is no longer an ability for a
"natural balance" to function. The ecology is managed and deciding to
allow wolves in Utah is simply a form of managing the environment, not restoring
a "natural balance". Introducing wolves will alter the ecology
dramatically. The real discussion is will the change be worth it? Talking
about God in this discussion demonstrates an inner turmoil that wolves can not
I like wolves and I vote.
