Washington D.C. At least Utah isn't going bankrupt like the liberal left
coast state of California.
So more Utah Republican's are joining the 47% not paying taxes and using
government entitlements? Shameful...... according to Mitt they were all
I object to the term "entitlement" when applied to unemployment
benefits. What did the unemployed do to be entitled to the payments? SS and
medicare are properly termed entitlements because the recipients paid into the
system, so they are entitled to the benefits. but unemployment does not work
Employment good -- state of Utah and the GOP, good.Employment bad --
Federal Government and Pres. Obama, bad.If only the world was as
simple and some minds make it out to be.
According to Mitt Romney, President Obama just picked up another 30,000
automatic votes in Utah!...and in other news, the State of Utah gets
more Federal hand-outs.BTW -- Whatever happened to that $85 Million
budget surplus Gov. Herbert and the rest of the GOP keep touting about?
@ Lost in DC (the first $7000 in earnings for an employee have both employee and
employer contribution into Unemployment benefits) So they do pay into it....
though it is not a lot
Wait! Didn't I just read last week that unemployment rates had dropped in
Utah. Is that called speaking out of both side of the mouth? Why would
people think that Utah is exempt from job losses? The fault lies with the big
"O". It's all in his plan, you must get the people so down and out,
so weak and pathetic then you can run all over them with a Mac Truck and
they'll thank you and praise the ground you walk on. He is slowly torturing
us into submission. Play a little golf, sing a little song and smile the big
smile and the people melt. Say you're a Christian, take a picture of him
opening the door of a church (of which he never enters) and people eat it all
up. His best buddy, you know Clinton, who was impeached for lying and now we
believe all his propaganda and laying the ground work for Obama.Oh what a
wicked web he weaves!
Last Friday the US Labor Department said that unemployment rates increased in 26
states. Must be Bush's fault, or as 'one old man' suggested,
perhaps it is Gov. Herbert's fault.
non-believer,thank you for the correction. I knew employers contributed,
but I was unaware employees did, not having noticed the deduction on my pay
@lost in DC- another thing you might have missed is that while you get
"paid" $100, but social security gets 6.2% of your gross pay, and
Medicare gets 1.45%, and your employer pays the same. So, the cost to the boss
for your working there is $107.30 but you are only taking home $92.70. That is
15.3% of your cost being paid to the government to pay for "free
stuff."And, for the last two years Congress has decided to give
employees a break by only collecting 4.2$ instead of 6.2% for the Social
Security part, even though SS is nearly bankrupt. Fiscal mismanagement by
Congress is beyond silly.Meanwhile, welfare benefits are being
extended (again), after the job seeking requirement was thrown out by executive
order, and we can expect to see more freeloaders back on the gravy train.
(Along with some truly needy and deserving people.)And, just where
does the Constitution authorize the government to transfer wealth from working
people to those who are not working?
How can the U.S. Department of Labor double the maximum potential entitlement
for Utah’s unemployed? Isn't this a state-run matter not subject to
federal regulation? Does Utah have to come up with the funds to now to
compensate people who can't find a job? Where's all this unemployment
money coming from? It's stupid to make laws to pay for unemployment
compensation while not having funds to pay for them.
DN Subscriber, yeah, I was aware BO insisted on reducing SS's
revenues as part of the december 2010 deal with congress to maintain the bush
tax cuts, the same tax cuts his own advisors said needed to remain in place
because the economy was so fragile. the same cuts that, on a percentage of
income basis, benefitted the lower income population MUCH more than high income
earners. He is gutting SS and endangering seniors in an attempt to buy votes
with SS money.
