Conference of Mayors supports Millcreek incorporation

    So a group of mayors want to continue to justify their existence vote to create yet another fiefdom and have another member in the good old boys club? Leave us alone, the County does a stellar job of providing municipal services, top police, fire, animal control, roads lighting and all at a modest cost. Take any home in the valley of a given valuation and yes some cities like Murray will have a lower total tax bill, but watch out for West Valley, Salt Lake City and even Cottonwood Heights. I don't care what a line item is, just the bottom line and Unincorporated County is a good value! This "wall-to-wall cities" is a wish of those who want to increase our government costs, total size and politicians power. Thank you Mayor Corroon for your excellent leadership along with Sheriff Winder. The last thing we want is Cottonwood Heights police in Millcreek targeting our citizens for speed trap revenues to bolster a city's coffers, no thanks!

    If Millcreek had the tax structure of Holladay, Taylorsville (both impose all Franchise taxes) or Cottonwood Heights, the citizens of Millcreek would save at least $4,000,000 annually. The property taxes that Millcreek Township will pay went up this year from $11 million to $15 million, none of these other Cities levy taxes as high as the unincorporated county does. This current increase is due to the transfer of the UPD fee to a property tax this year. This means Millcreek township has paid $4,000,000 more in taxes and fees for basic City services that any of these other surrounding cities for the past 3 years.

    Other revenues will be the same whether incorporated or unincorporated. Property Taxes and Franchise Taxes are the only variables. Currently the County has given up all property tax control to un-elected service districts.

    If Millcreek incorporation is successful you will know who to talk to when you have issues. Long time nagging neighborhood issues will get attention and action they have long deserved. After electing local officials, you will be able to EXPECT them to be responsive. Why pay more than you have to, for less than you deserve.
