FASD day serves as warning about pregnant mothers consuming alcohol

    This is the #1 preventable disability in the world. I've seen the effects of it and it's not pretty. These poor kids are often diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, depression, inappropriate and outlandish behavior and a host of other things that plague them forever. It's brain damage...alcohol essentially pickles the baby's developing brain in the womb and causes irreparable damage. According to research I've done on it (pre-adoption research), many of the FAS symptoms don't become really prevalent until puberty. We want to adopt, but are fearful of FAS or FASD because it will mean a lifelong battle.
