It was great to see Lark and Hill get all the snaps in the 2nd half. I love it
that Doman was letting Hill throw the ball and get into the end zone late in the
4th quarter. It's not running up the score if it's your 3rd string
QB!Concern: offensive line specifically, and the whole offense in
general. They took a while to get going, and struggled to protect the QB and
run the ball. So far I'm not impressed with the slimmed-down line. Seems
they are getting pushed around a bit too much. They did look better as the game
went on, so hopefully they got something figured out. There was a lot
of praise for Epperson today. Yes, he did a great job for Weber punting the
ball; and it is unique that he not only punts but plays on defense. However,
take a look at the box score and you'll see that Stevenson actually
averaged more yards per punt than Epperson. BYU has a pretty good punter as
I always like to see the young guys get in and contribute. Bronson Kaufusi with
a nice sack just a few months removed from a mission was fun. James Lark
isn't exactly a young guy, but I loved watching him run the team without
much loss of production. Getting some extended reps for Taysom Hill was good for
the future. Weber State played hard and had some big plays on
defense. Epperson was an amazing punter - including left-footed, but was an
excellent defender. They were outmatched, but they will do very well for the
remainder of the season.
Nice win Cougs. Solid play on both sides of the ball. A bit worried about our
O line but we also haven't seen the whole offense yet. Glad to see all the
QBs getting some playing time and Hill is going to make the coaches think twice
about who should be the starter before this year is over. The future indeed
looks bright.Hopefully next week makes it 3-0 to start the year!
I was actually pretty impressed with Weber State's "D" line. They
did well on defense, but just got worn down as the offense couldn't get
anything going against the size of BYU's "D". Good to see them
punch the ball in the end zone a few times even though it was against the second
or third string.Big game next week against McNeese State, that will
be a big measuring stick of where Weber State is in the FCS level. Hopefully,
they start scheduling only one payday game a year for future seasons. Two games
really can take a toll with injuries and not getting any momentum.Nice job BYU, but don't overlook Utah because of the USU loss. I
actually think this is the closest all three FBS Utah teams have been
talent-wise. Should make for some interesting games. GO WILDCATS!
I'm very happy that Austin Holt and Richard Wilson each got a catch. Those
two were national-level recruits when they signed with BYU. It's great to
see Friel emerge at tight end, but what a huge waste of talent if Holt and
Wilson just sit on the bench for the rest of their careers.
I will take Lark or Hill over Riley when it comes to throwing the ball. Cougar
fans I hope you realize Riley has heart, but he can't throw the ball to
save his life, and against a better defensive teams (like the stretch coming up)
it is going to be ugly. Hill needs the reps he is the future and a better QB
than Riley right now.
Re: bballjunkieI agree that Riley's passes looked pretty ugly.
But for the most part, they were thrown to good places where it was difficult
for anybody but the receiver to catch them. I do say "for the most
part", however, because there were a few questionable decisions by Riley.
He threw into double coverage a few times. If he does that against Utah,
we're looking at several turnovers and another long game.Plus,
Bronco said after the game that Riley was having some back spasms. I'm
sure that affected his throwing. At least I hope it did.
Wow the message boards about BYU games sure are quiet when Utah loses to Utah
Orem ParentI've missed some of the "fans" as well.
Pretty amazing isn't it? I announced the Dish Network / PAC 12
Network deal on 2 or 3 stories earlier today and not a peep.I'd
expect at least some comments saying how wrong I've been about the
fledgling network, blah, blah, blah.Anyway the silence is deafening.
They are reevaluating their team loyalties or maybe taking a long look at
DishNet contracts. Maybe they all went to Disneyland to find some happiness or
Orem Parent,I can't comment because I couldn't get the
game. I thought it would be on ESPN.Either way, I'm sure BYU
didn't show everything on offense so we should see more of the playbook
next week. Sounds like BYU has some of the same problems Utah has, poor O-line
and QB play.
@U 90What cable or sattelite system are you on? I checked and BYUtv
is on several available systems in Corona.
DuckhunterU90 has TimeWarnerCable, one of the few cable systems in
the US that does not carry BYUtv. Must be a Prop 8 protest thing in
California.I did point out to him that he could get it over the
internet. Guess he couldn't figure it out or was too busy.
