Alpine is the heroin hot spot of Utah County. A local rehab center in Alpine
for Alpine residents is a good thing.
Why?Red Smith beat me too it....Isn't this like
moving the work to the worksite? You can take the influence of the
drug addict out of Alpine, But you can't take influence of Alpine out
of the drug addict.
IF Alpine could guarantee that the patients of this drug rehab facility were
local residents, then maybe they would be ok with the idea. BUT, it cannot be
guaranteed that these ADULT MEN will be from the city, county or even the state!
They also cannot guarantee that these men will not have a violent criminal
background. They cannot guarantee that these adult men will not stay in the
program or be healed by the program. Because this is not a court-ordered
facility, the men can leave if they so choose. Most people that leave a rehab
program early are leaving because they want or need to find their drug of choice
and they would likely try to burgle the homes in the area. The Alpine Recovery
Lodge can only guarantee that these ADULT MEN will be able to pay or have the
credit to pay them.
CDMON,You can not guarantee anything else in life either. You can
not guarantee your neighbor that has lived next door to you for yeas is not an
addict of any kind, is not into child porn or adult porn.If you want to
continue to fool yourself in believing that, you are just that a fool.
Justme001, I can guarantee my neighbors have passed background checks, they have
all worked or are working in jobs that require FBI checks. I can't
guarantee that they aren't addicted to something. I know that some are
addicted to Diet Coke. ThomasJefferson, Alpine City has an
ordinance that limits all households of unrelated people to 4 residents. It
doesn't matter if they are roommates or rehab patients. This is the
ordinance that Alpine Recovery Lodge is asking for a variance to allow 16
unrelated people to live in the rehab center. If 16 patients is their magic
number, maybe they should find a less expensive location.
I can understand the feelings of these residents. But, the rehabilitation center
will not be they they think it will be.My daughter, son in law and
my three grandchildren live within one block of such a facility. They were
somewhat fearful at first, but not now. The adult men who will live
at the facility in Alpine are down and out. They are at the end of their ropes
and just want to get treatment. They don't want to bother those around
them. They just want some help. They will have lots of helpers, and they get
therapy to help them be stronger and keep from doing things that will set them
back. The local residents will not have reason to fear; they will
learn that these men are good people trying to get themselves out of a hole they
have dug for themselves.
