    This is what happens in Socialist countries where the "Central State" decides what's right for everybody.

    Everything is free, except the people.

    Freedom should be limited when it either harms or restricts the freedoms of others. You aren't allowed to murder whoever you want to. You aren't allowed to assault strangers on the street. Is this a limit to your freedom? If it is determined that spanking is a form of child abuse and causes long-term psychological harm, then your freedom to damage your child should be limited.

    How much abuse do you think should be protected as a freedom? A single hit over the clothes? A small bruise? A welt? Drawing blood? Broken bones? I'm sure you would be appalled by what some people deem acceptable punishment for their kids. There is a point when society is better off curbing freedom.

    These studies seem to focus on what makes the child happiest, but there is no consideration of what produces the best society. On this planet there is individual selection and group selection, so forming a good society is important.
