Although I disagree with him on plenty of issues, a conservative Democrat much
more closely represents the constituents of the 4th district than does a Tea
Party ideologue. Matheson is the easy choice here.
conservative Democrat? 75% voting with obama, I think not
Who is Mia Love but another pretty face with enough digits to sign what is
placed before her?
@Holden Caufield~As a precinct officer in an active and outspoken
precinct, which is also part of the 4th district, I will respectfully disagree
with your assessment. Please do not speak on behalf of the entire 4th district.
Mia Love talked about all the opportunities she's had as an American -- yet
she calls for budget cuts that would eliminate those very same opportunities for
future generations. Sorry, but if you made it through college on government
assistance that you now want to cut, you're suffering either from amnesia
or rank hypocrisy. And every time outsiders come into Utah with
fistfulls of dollars trying to paint Matheson as a radical, they fail. The young
people relate much more easily to him than to the extremists that run against
him, and the old people fondly remember his father, Governor Matheson, from back
in the old days before the GOP and the John Birch society convinced Utah that
all democrats were of the devil.
Why fix something not broken. Matheson has been great for his district and
would easily win if not for party affiliation. Mia Love is an unknown entity
who was underwhelming at the RNC, with a speech lacking any substance
whatsoever, granted she was only given two minutes. It's almost comical to
me that the GOP wants to keep race out of everything, yet they roll out the red
carpet for Ms. Love. Why don't people see the hypocrisy in that?
Matheson originally voted for the ACA when the vote counted. Then, this past
Spring, when the House voted to repeal the ACA, he voted in favor of the repeal,
when the vote didn't count, because Matheson knew the Senate and the
"president" would veto the House decision. Is that the kind of
leadership the people in Utah want in Washington?
"liberate" @3:10 "unknown entity"? "underwhelming"?
"lacking any substance"?Maybe you've been out of the
country where media is not available. Even the Obama pep club (mainstream
media)haven't quit talking about her since she gave her speech. The bigger issue though is: WHY keep sending the same ones back to D.C. to
supposedly solve the problems THEY caused? I include Orrin Hatch in that group
btw.Maybe we should just throw up our hands and ADMIT that D.C.
insiders can stay there for as long as they want?
Although many of the state's citizens SAY they don't believe in career
politicians, they tend to cling to the entrenched old guard more often than not.
If Matheson is so great, why hasn't he done more to straighten out his
party, and particularly the president? Why does he seem to "go along to get
along" more often than not? We need some people who will get up there and
breathe fire and brimstone, and tell it like it is. We're sinking under a
mountain of debt and deficit spending, in addition to the dashing to
constitutional rights and the separation of powers. So if Matheson is really
representing any conservatives, why doesn't he change alliances? Could it
be because he doesn't have to live like the rest of us, and is just
grateful that there IS no recession in Washington D. C.? Love may not be
perfect, but let's let someone else have a chance, and start giving
incumbents a chance at another career besides living off our public money.
@JayTee, fire and brimstone didn't get the constitution written. Compromise
did. Utah's up-and-coming Republicans don't know the meaning of that
word. They think they can just show up in Washington and throw a fit, and the
nation will magically bend to their will. But in a country as diverse as ours,
that strategy won't get them anywhere. We need more Jim Mathesons, who put
principles before partisanship, who can work with both sides to pursue
common-sense solutions to our nation's problems.Utah has plenty
of elected representatives whose guiding principle is "my way or the
highway." The last thing we need is to replace Jim Matheson with someone
else who thinks that's the way to get things done. It never has been, and
it never will be.
Jim Matheson = Nancy Pelosi. It's time for a "love"ly woman to
fill this seat.
Matheson can't win either way. His own party dislikes him because he's
too conservative, but they're willing to put up with him since he's
the only kind of Democrat who can get elected in Utah. He falls into the same
category as former Congressman Bill Orton. On the other hand, the tea baggers
want to portray him as a liberal commi. Therefore, I think he must be doing
something right. He's a pragmatic moderate conservative who wants to try to
get some work done for his district. Utah doesn't need anymore right wing
idealogues. There are too many of them already.
I don't appreciate the Big Washington DC Liberal PACs distorting Mia
Love's stellar record of selfless service and hard work. Why can't
they just get the story straight?

To Red Smith 2:04 p.m. Sept. 3, 2012Mia Love = John Boehner (and
Boehner is a disaster for the United States since he's more interested in
being obstructionist than working for the good of the United States). It's
time for this "love"ly woman to do the job she was elected to do -- be
Mayor of Saratoga Springs -- and not use her current office as a springboard to
