Well done. BYU 65
wow. who would have thought?
This is what they have to do - take care of business. The shutout is a nice
Bears didn't cross the 50. Well done.
Well done Utes, Travis Wilson is a freakin' stud.
Good job Utes. Probably does not tell us much.
no colorado is like playing st. teresa's co-ed team. hope they didn't
charge for the tickets
Week 1:A) The defense is outstanding.B) The offense
needs work (Wynn)F) The kicking game is "abysmal".Both Utah State and BYU looked good, they'll both be tougher then I had
Would have been nice if we could actually see the game. Not at all happy with
the tv deal. Feels like the mtn all over again even down to the conference
telling us to call our satellite provider. Totally pathetic.
BYU, Utah State, Utah---did any of them give up a touchdown?
41-0 against a no name opponent and Coach Whittingham is driving the feature
back (White IV) in the 4th quarter. 25 carries is too many in a blowout. Whitt
needs to save White IV or he will run him into the ground. Coach
Mac's Utes were blowing out Indiana when he ran Marty Johnson into an ACL
tear in the 4th quarter. Johnson was never the same player, although he had a
nice senior season with Urban Meyer.Utah will lean heavily on White
and they should give him the rock a lot, but save him when you can. Tonight was
silly.I just wish Whitt would recognize what the rest of the
football world is doing by having two backs. white needs 20-25 carries tops each
game. Last year he had two games over 40 carries and half his games were over 30
carries. That is insane. White held up great and is an iron man. Still history
shows that when a RB comes back from a heavy carry season with oanother one, his
production drops and injuries happen. It's called wear and tear.
Hey Utah! I used to make fun of Nebraska opening up their seasons against Ball
State. I think now I'll have to change that to making fun of you opening
up against University of Northern Colorado. I live in Northern Colorado and
wouldn't pay money to watch them play football. Have they even won 5 games
in the past decade? Your game would have been more exciting if you
played Skyline High School. I wonder how good you actually are? If your coach
can't tell you what he learned in this game....how can the fans even feel
good about it.
@UteologyYou said - "Both Utah State and BYU looked good,
they'll both be tougher then I had expected."Glad to see
there are a few Ute fans who are realists. Whenever any of my Ute
fan friends or family members say the Utah State and BYU games will be cakewalks
for the Utes, I politely reply with one single word."Colorado"
From a Cougar fan, well done Utes!Defense was top notch, offense was
strong. Great win to start the season. Excited to see how you guys
do as your schedule gradually gets tougher each week, starting next Saturday up
in Logan. This isn't your grandmother's Utah State team
Worf,Looks like this season may be a good one for all state schools
Correction to Amy. The Utes only allowed 35 yards rushing and 79 passing. USU and BYU both looked strong.
After the Utes so-so performance against the worst AA team and after the Cougars
absolute and clear dominance over WSU, I think some Utes are shaking in their
cleats at the prospect of going up against the Blue.Nelson and his
Cougars are going to prove a point on the Hill this year and put little brother
back into his place.
Was at the game last night. Not terribly impressed with the offense, but they
certainly didn't get too creative offensively or defensively with UNC.
Really a very basic approach. I would be surprised if they hadn't spent the
last few days setting up the game plan for Utah State. I know Whitt says they
don't overlook anyone, but it doesn't mean they didn't give some
focus to USU.Im excited about the future of Travis Wilson. Guy is a
stud! Go Ute's... Glad to have the first game out of the way. I expect
they'll be a little more exciting and crisp in week 2.Go Utes
@Cosmo's Cousin,Shaking in our "cleats"? Hardly.
While the Y looked good against WSU, they are hardly a dominant team, either
offensively or defensively. I remmeber how "dominant" the Y looked last
year and how last year's Holy War turned out, don't you??? While
I'm hopeful the offense can pull it together, the Y will have a MUCH harder
time getting away with the kind of plays they did last night against the
U's defense. With that said, can't wait to see my Utes play USU to
get a better idea of the team's potential.
@ Cosmo's Cousin"After the Utes so-so performance against
the worst AA team and after the Cougars absolute and clear dominance over WSU, I
think some Utes are shaking in their cleats at the prospect of going up against
the Blue".Here's the thing. Utah can play defense, in fact
Utah's defense is one of the best in the Pac-12 and WSU is one of the
worst. Until BYU finally beats Utah, WE OWN U little brother!"Nelson and his Cougars are going to prove a point on the Hill this year
and put little brother back into his place".And what's that
point? I remember last year the Utah defense forced Nelson to fumble which
resulted in 7 points.
Well, I'm not sure what game you watched but I was watching ESPN in HD.The Blue looks to have BCS potential and maybe even a candidate for the
national championship this year. Nelson is the real deal and should be on the
Heisman watch.Your team, on the other hand, looked like a great
candidate to make the Div II playoffs this year.
Right, because victories over the likes of WSU (Pac12 bottom dweller), Idaho,
Weber State, San Jose State, and New Mexico State obviously show that BYU has
arrived. To state that you are an NC contender after beating 1 mediocre (at
best) team is simply laughable! Although it does seem to jive with the typical
BYU outlook after the first game of the season ("quest for perfection"
anyone??). Seriously Cosmo, your posts are making my day!
Bleed Crimson"Utah can play defense, in fact Utah's defense
is one of the best in the Pac-12 and WSU is one of the worst."Lots of hot air blowing from the hill this morning. Here's the
real thing:2011 - 30-27 in OTUtah - 15 1st downs, 358 total
yds, 172 passing, 186 rushingWSU -- 20 1st downs, 399 total yds, 337
passing, 62 rushing2012 - 30-6 in regulationBYU - 24 1st
downs, 426 total yds, 303 passing, 123 rushingWSU - 18 1st downs, 224
total yds, 229 passing, -5 rushingIt's only one game, but
clearly, BYU's defense last night against Mike Leach's "Air
Raid" offense was much more dominant than Utah's defense was last year
against WSU's supposedly inferior offense.btw, if Utah fans are
counting on the turnover gods to always smile in their favor, they're going
to be sorely disappointed.
Atta-Ute12"Right, because victories over the likes of WSU (Pac12
bottom dweller),... show that BYU has arrived."Just like
victories over the likes of 1-AA Northern Colorado (winless in 2011), show that
PAC 12 bottom dweller Utah has arrived. Didn't Utah just barely sneak past
WSU 30-27 in OT last season?Gotta laugh at the inconsistency of Utah
RockwellYour comparisons really don't mean anything. Both the
Utes and byU beat WSU in the last year. The only thing to add is that the Utes
beat the cougies by 44. You knew that though.Granted a couple of the
byU turnovers from last year were gifts. The majority.. were plays on the ball
by the Utah D. Are the Utes expecting 7 turnovers again this year? Doubt it.
Will they be all over Nelson and co. and making plays on the ball? You can bet
on it. Star will do his thing and let everyone else take shots and
make plays. We don't need any help from the "turnover gods" as you
say. Go Utes...on to Logan.
Clark Hippo,1 game does not a season make. Colorado was a loss last
year, but I seem to remember beating you down at your place 54-10. So by your
logic, we will win again, especially since it is a RES. While the Y looked good
last night, Wazzu was just awful. Their D was 100 yards off of the Y's
WR's, and when Riley got pressured, his noodle arm, wounded ducks still
made it there because of how open they were. I wouldn't count on that
happening against Utah. Weber St might een put up a better fight this next week.
Riley is a gamer, and can take a hit. He is one tough cookie. I really like him
as a person, but as a QB, both he and Wynn have weak and pathetic throwing arms.
Personally I think that the UTES should just start Wilson, get him some reps and
experience, and the Y should start Hill. This season means nothing for the Y.
Next year is the year that they have the tough schedule, and if they play well
have a chance for national recognition. So get Hill the reps.
utahcountyute"Your comparisons really don't mean anything.
Both the Utes and BYU beat WSU in the last year."Your spin is
laughable - the Utes BARELY beat WSU, while BYU DOMINATED WSU.The
BYU and Utah games against WSU last year and this are the only benchmark we have
for comparing how this year's BYU team is playing. Utah's defense from
last year is basically the same this year, and all of the main offensive players
for WSU are also the same this year, yet BYU's defense significantly
outperformed Utah's defense from a year ago.btw, without the
turnover gods, Utah would have LOST to WSU last season, and the game versus BYU
would have been MUCH, MUCH closer, as evidenced by how close the game was in
re: GatorNationFan 1:29 a.m. Aug. 31, 2012Being a graduate of the U
& Skyline (the 1 here (not Oakland (?) or Dallas)) and call you out on 2
things;Whit has picked a QB. Last I heard, Muschamp was even less
certain on his QB than Spurrier typically is.The Lizards from
Gainesville have never scheduled a cupcake? Really? They, not Nebraska, made
having a September schedule approved by Hostess an art form.
Lonestar" Utah's defense from last year is basically the
same this year"I'd say they're better. Scary, I
know."all of the main offensive players for WSU are also the
same this year"Not exactly. It's kind of glaring when they
had a different QB for most of the season. Oh wait, Utah didn't have their
starter either. Even then, they beat them on their field in a snow storm. I have to agree with you about on one thing though. byU did give up in
the 2nd half last year against the Utes. Go Utes!
re: gdog3finally 1:08 a.m. Aug. 31, 2012Agreed about Whit overusing
White. As a Braves fan, It reminds me of Gonzalez overworking Kimbrel last yr.
I just hope Whit doesn't get to conservative and devolve back
into 3 yds and a cloud of a dust. Wilson is a great change of pace.
The Two TE's (Murphy & Rolf) were great.Everyone talks
about Star & The Kruger boys but I was really impressed by Fakahafua.
utahcountyuteNice dodge, but the Utes not having Wynn doesn't
explain why BYU's DEFENSE was so much more dominating against WSU's
OFFENSE, than Utah's. Tuel replacing Halladay would seem to indicate that
Tuel is BETTER than the QB who played against Utah last season, since Halladay
is still on the team.WSU versus Utah - 399 yards total offense; 27
pointsWSU versus BYU - 224 yards total offense; 6 pointsIf
anything, the snowstorm and having an inferior QB should have slowed down
Washington State's offense last season, not made it more effective. It's interesting that Hayes was good enough to beat UCLA 31-6 the
week before, but Utah fans try to use Hayes as their excuse for barely beating
WSU and losing to Colorado. Of course, this isn't the first time this has
happened to Whittingham. After beating UCLA 44-6 at home in 2007, the Utes went
on the road the following week and got shut out by lowly UNLV(2-10) 0-27.Playing poorly after beating UCLA seems to be a pattern for Whittingham.
Better watch out for the Beavers this year, IF U manage to beat the Bruins.
LonestarSo... in a round about way....are you saying that byU's
defense is better than Utah's? The same defense that allowed 54 points
against the Utes? Do you know how that sounds?Ala Ducky....LOL!I guess it will come down to the head to head meeting on the 15th to
determine this.Can't wait!
@utahcntyute"I guess it will come down to the head to head
meeting on the 15th to determine this. Can't wait!"Well it appears like your remote control finger will be in good shape so you
should be able to find it.
at Rockwell 10:23 aComparing schedules/opponents from 2 different
years? That is circular logic by war kitty fans at its "finest".Now, let me point out the obvious the the U's 2012 schedule and
BYU's in 2011.The Utes schedule their tune-up/fillers in Sept
when they are supposed to & not November as an ego boost.
Wally WestWhat pathetically weak smack trying to compare when weak
or strong opponents are played. Utah has absolutely ZERO control of who they
play and when after September.Road games are without question, the
toughest games to win, and comparing BYU's and Utah's four toughest
road games, is no contest - BYU's road schedules dwarfs Utah's:Toughest Road GamesBYUat Utah(8-5)at Boise
State(12-1) - 5 days after Utahat Notre Dame(8-5)at Ga Tech(8-5)Utahat Utah State(7-6)at ASU(6-7)at UCLA(6-8)at
@LonestarRunnerDifferent years, different weeks, different teams,
different stadium, different coaches, different weather. There is no comparison
to be had between last year's Utah/WSU game and this years BYU/WSU game.
BYU was strong in the opener, leave it at that.
No. Phoenix. You are wrong. Comparing similar opponents in 2 different seasons
is incredibly weak. Then, you drift back and try to compare road schedules for
the current season? Try & have a coherent thought process before
you go borrowing Mr Peabody's WABAC machine? How's that for smack!?
Well shoot...I'm not going to say Utah's win was
"impressive", because it was what it should have been. If any of you byu
fans would have seen the game (I know, insert tv deal joke here), you probably
would have realized how little you can tell about Utah's offense. I mean,
they only ran 2 different plays tops from each package. The D was stellar, but
again, not saying much based on the opponent.Besides.You coug
fans shouldn't be as happy with your team's performance on saturday
night as you are. I mean, how many times did Riley roll out of the pocket and
throw across his body into the teeth of the defense? You're lucky he
didn't have 2 or more picks! Also, are we just pretending BYU's
inability to convert on third-and-short didn't happen?? BYU's defense
did look good, but gave up a few big plays and had to be saved by Washington
State's offense shooting themselves in the foot (i.e. holding penalties on
long touchdown passes). Congrats on the "big" win, but come
re: Swoop 10:46 a.m. Aug. 31, 2012"Gotta laugh at the
inconsistency of Utah fans."Turn about is fair play. The
circular logic of byu makes me.... laugh... really it does.
