GenOva, Italy? Does the writer mean Genoa, Italy? GenOva, Italy appears to be a
mix between Geneva, Switzerland, and Genoa, Italy!
"Genova" is the real Italian spelling of the city vs. the anglicized
"Genoa". "Geneva" is also not the way the locals spell the name
of their city: "Geneve". This government recognition is
great news for the members in Italy, who now have 7 stakes in their country and
a beautiful new Temple being built on the northern outskirts of Rome. This is a
very tough place to be LDS with both religious and popular culture often a
challenge. I encourage all former Italian missionaries to get in
touch with your Italian "families" and do whatever you can to strengthen
these wonderful people to prepare to go to the new Temple in Rome. Write them
your testimonies (as we did in Books of Mormon back in the day), call or write.
Visit when you are in Europe. These people love their missionaries like no other
people I know and I have seen how much they appreciate feeling our love and
faith. Forza Italia!!
Bravo eastcoastcoug! Lo faro'!
""We have been waiting for this for many years," said Giuseppe
Pasta, an Italian Mormon for more than 40 years."Giuseppe
Pasta...what an awesomely stereotypical Italian name! But seriously, this is
great news for the church.
It makes you appreciate living in a country where you don't need permission
from the State to be a Church. I was surprised to find just how unique the
United States is in that regard.
Thanks eastcoastcoug, great advise for all members who travel to Europe over the
next year or two.I was glad to see the posted completion date as 2014.
Though I had heard that date, it seemed like a long time to construct a temple.
Though I suspect this temple will be something very special, considering where
it's being built.redcorvett...thanks again for checking in from
Sacramento.Once again, my black Vette will eat your red vette for brunch
and not break a sweat.

As missionary emphasis of the Mormon church has shifted more towards the
developing world where ignorance of the Bible is endemic, it's rather nice
to see something like this happen in Europe.
Shelama, The different professors of Christian religions interpret the same
Bible passages so very differently, it destroys all confidence most people have
in discovering the truth from reading the Bible.
Ave Maria, gratia plena.Maria, gratia plenaMaria, gratia plenaAve, ave dominus, Dominus tecum.Benedicta tu in mulieribus, Et benedictusEt benedictus fructus ventris, Ventris tui, Jesus.Ave Maria.I love Italy! I miss Italy! I would love to see this
temple someday. It looks to be absolutely beautiful. Ave Maria or not, I'll
gladly sing to the occasion.
Shelama, So who or what religion caused the lack of understanding of the bible
in these "developing countries" for centuries?Perhaps that is
where you should direct your concerns.
The Bible is God's Word, has been translated into every language and still
stands as His preeminent authority, regardless of its readership. That Italy
has held out so long is a testament to its former reliance on the Biblical
standard. It does not matter to Biblical believers what any
government or country rules. The Bible is the believer's authority,
irrespective of Communist, Islamist, Hindu, Buddhist, et al, political
decisions. That Italy has relaxed its definition says who is not using the
Biblical standard of monotheism, salvation by grace, and the priesthood of
believers. We are keeping Italy in our prayers!
AZRods, I'm not sure that correcting profound, Biblical ignorance and
illiteracy is in the best interests of those whose who would spread Mormonism or
Christianity. It seems that the more critical knowledge and understanding that
people have of the Bible the less likely they are to convert to either.
The Torino Olympics were held in Turin, if you insist on anglicizing proper
nouns.Sono veramente contento di leggere questa notizia della Chiesa
in Italia. Gli santi in Italia sono bravissimi!
@onlythecross: can claim that the Bible is the only word of God on earth and
insinuate that Italy finally gave in to non-believers. Can you show where you
come up with the claim that the Bible is all inclusive of God's word and
that it is the only book on earth that is to be taken as God's word?Would love to see the reference. Thanks in advance
Or, as the Florentines said, SPQR... Sono porci questi Romani.
@Dante"Sono veramente contento di leggere questa notizia della Chiesa
in Italia. Gli santi in Italia sono bravissimi!"-----------D'accordo!
RE:The Roman government has a different view than The Roman Catholic Church
about the practices and beliefs of Mormonism? While the Catholic Church
would reject nothing that is true or good in Mormonism or any other world
religion, Catholic theology would have to note that there is a tremendous amount
in Mormonism that is neither true nor good. Further, because Mormonism presents
itself as a form of Christianity yet is incompatible with the historic Christian
faith, sound pastoral practice would need to warn the Christian faithful: Mormon
theology is polytheistic, and cannot be considered on par with the theology of
other Christian groups. While individual Mormons may be persons of
good conscience, Mormonism itself is a belief system that would reduce the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit from being the three Persons of the one,
true, and infinite God to being three limited, finite deities among an uncounted
multitude of deities, all of whom merely reshaped small parts of a preexisting
