First of all, for all you naysayers, don't forget, DN is owned by the
Mormon church. Second, best of luck to all the LDS athletes and to the athletes
from the USA also.
I just wonder how many catholics are in the Olympics
@MLH, Good question. Why don't you figure it out and let us know.
Why wasn't this story about the number of Utahn's in the Olympic
games? Why does it matter which religion the competitors are?
I did not watch any of the Bejing Olympics. And I have no intention of watching
any of the London Olympics. The involvement of Mormons or Utahns doesn't
change this. There is a glut of international competition which makes this
"event" insignificant. And the events are for the most part either
uninteresting (most events), exploitative (gymnastics amounts to child abuse) or
(in the case of interesting sporting events) inferior to more meaningful
competitions such as Wimbledon or NBA finals or World Cup Soccer or the Tour de
France. And nationalism, the apparent draw upon which interest lies, is
My 10th grade english class required a research paper. I wrote on the Olympics
and the nationalism which has consumed them. The original charter of the
Olympics banned the counting of medals by participating countries. The games
were instigated to celebrate the achievements of individual athletes. It was
assumed that this was the best way to bring nations together in a totally non
nationalistic venue. We have totally defeated the original intent of the Olympic
movement. The answer to the question of why is "follow the money".
I would guess that one of the reasons there is an article about the number of
members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participating in the
Olympics in the Mormon Times section of the DN is because stories in the Mormon
Times are about . . . . Mormons! :) No one needs to feel slighted by that.
Does anyone have the latest news as to who god is cheering for.
@Candide"Why wasn't this story about the number of Utahn's

skeptic,I'd have to say every single one competing. He loves
all of his children.
