Another reason for people not to go downtown. My first run in with these meters
is that they are not user friendly and must cost tens of thousands of dollars
per machines that is a waste compared to individual meters of the past. I can
see why the city had to raise the parking costs on the streets to pay for the
corruption and waste the city is spending on high end meters. The
meters are LCD screens that you can't read in the day light and they
aren't even marked for what it costs for the spot parking fee. They must
have one $1.50/hr machine and 3,000 $2/hr machines. A subtle method of cheating
people on parking meters by corporate SLC.FYI, I did not stay and
left the downtown the way I found it, objectionable. Will it be another 15 years
before I dare venture in to downtown again? Might even be longer. I think SLC it
trying to discourage people from going downtown is my take and my conclusion to
comply with their wishes. Times this by 2 million residents of the Wasatch
Thanks to commercial expansion into the suburbs I rarely neeed to go downtown
anymore, and with the new parking changes I will choose to go even less
frequently. I can't see how this is a revenue plus for Salt Lake; whatever
they gain in parking revenue will be more than offset by the loss in sales tax
from those of us who choose to avoid downtown for easier, cheaper alternatives.
Sorry, Salt Lake, you just aren't the hub that you used to be.
Next time, try attracting people instead of putting up the 'Stay off my
I appreciate how those who do not go downtown or live in SLC always seem to have
the most negative to say about SLC.
here is the bottom line no cheap parking structures. or now on street. trax not
an option if you are going to buy somthing, or many for example going to new
stores that opened. i can go to a mall and park for freen and not pay 8 dollars
to shop. just a amount if you eat and shop. so i will never go check out the new
stores because the reasons i dont shop in salt lake are increaseing. they are
more bike riding positive then cars anyway bicycles do what they want and never
get tickets. but if you watch the news. more get hit every year then ever before
because they have a we own the roads way of thinking.
It's unsettling for a politician to have access to extra money. Watch out
