"the official church mostly steers clear of politics."---Can't. Stop. Laughing.
Ranch ... quickly, go grab a dictionary and look up 'mostly'. Add a
little perspective, context. Should help you stop laughing. No
It is not so much that they are Mormon but are they Mormon Enough. When I went
to Washington D.C in 1998 we went to the D.C. Temple one evening. WE both had
TR's at the time and it was a good experience, lots of Back Packs in the
Lobby. You could tell the Church is very strong in Washington D.C. Gordon Smith
was elected to the Senate out of Oregon and we had great hope, that Bush would
HALT Abortion. I had a little trouble voting for Smith because of my stand on
the Right To Die which is a huge Issue in Oregon and I expected Smith to come
stand for his Mormon Beliefs and not help on that issue. I would have been
shocked if he caved in and very distrustful. If I had to settle for one issue it
would be Stopping Abortion anyway, Anyway it was a good trip and I did a lot of
Subway and Bus and of course the Chapels and Stakes I saw where always in fine
shape. I was not in town on a Sunday so I didn't get to go to Church.
Among the things you have to be if you are Mormon and Mormon Enough, is a huge
fan of Free Agency. So you folks hoping to get some control and a little
repression in aren't likely to get it. Although you can't leave your
religious beliefs at home when you come to office, remember that the Church is
not the State nor the other way around, and you would not want it to be.
Remember the First Freedom to go is usually Religious Freedom either of it or
from it.If given a choice you want Freedom Of Religion to go. You do not want to
live in a Society that you are Not Free From Religion. From forced Religion
comes total control and you can look at places that have that and you don't
want that. With that comes the loss of Free Agency and Religious Practice out of
Fear. Which is bad on the Spirit and Does Not Count. There will be a
Healthy Underground but it will be just that. Plus you will get one heck of a
backlash when it is over. Slow and Steady, One Day and Thing at a Time.
Joseph Smith prophesied that all of North and South America is, and would be
Zion. What is Zion? A place where peoples of all races and
backgrounds can have the liberties that are guaranteed in the US Constitution
and that are given to all mankind by God.
When I lived in Washington there were about 40,000 to 45,000 members around the
beltway. There were a lot of members in high administration positions and on
Capitol Hill...also some powerful lobbyists. The Membership was really strong.
We were told that it was the 5th highest concentration of membership in the
Just like the Christians usurped Rome... the players may change but the story
remains the same.
